NB Voltage Control 890FX w/ AMD 955

Thread Starter
Having lots of problems. 2400mhz i can use the stock 1.150v nb.
but add 200mhz to a total of 2600mhz (2000mhz stock) and it wont boot even at 1.350v...

im also confused with OC it because i usually use auto(which suprisingly leaves everything at stock voltage with 800mhz OC to the cores).

I have NB voltage but also CPU PLL voltage (*** is this)?

Also what is NB/PCIe/PLL Voltage ctrl - why all at once? Its at 1.200v.

Pics of BIOS coming up once i boot my computer that im OC.

Can you post what all your OC settings are that you have in your BIOS?

You don't have to touch the NB voltage; the CPU-NB voltage is what you should be adjusting when overclocking your NB.

Leave the NB voltage at stock and up the CPU-NB voltage to ~1.35-1.4v for 2800mhz.

Stock NB freq @ 2000mhz i OC it to 2400Mhz without problems at stock voltage.

its being a little *****! I was running stock voltages for a long time @2400mhz but now when i OC the NB to 2600mhz 1.230v is causing BSOD. Is it the mobo thats not taking the OC well?

Edit - i cranked it to 1.310v and still 2600mhz is giving me BSOD...

@ 1.350v it wont even boot....

im beginning to think i am missing some sort of setting here! I am going back to auto voltage and i will post a pic of my BIOS up.
I really want my NB up to increase FPS in GTA IV EFLC because GPU acceleration is making nil increase in FPS.

Make sure it's the CPU-NB voltage you're adjusting and not the NB voltage!

Leave the "NB voltage control" alone and adjust the "CPU NB VID control" instead. Try it at 1.35v and see if that solves your problem.

If you were doing the "NB voltage control" then yes, you were doing the wrong one.

should i keep dropping the voltage afterwards to see if it runs stable or is 1.35v considered really safe?

1.30v seems stable @2800mhz im going to run prime95 to check

I read somewhere 2800mhz is the ceiling for the 890fx, 3000mhz wont boot. Will i need any additional copper heatsinks on my mobo? How can i check if my mobo is to hot?

Im OC the CPU and CPU-NB , are there any other voltages i should increase from that list other than CPU core and the CPU-nb?

edit - 4.2ghz OC @ 1.5v 50degree loads 1.30v NB @2800mhz... 20-30fps in GTA EFLC! Im ecstatic!!!!
