XFX 6950 1GB reviews

All I can find online are bad reviews on this card. Newegg, Amazon, TigerDirect... like 80% of the reviews are bad.

CompUSA is like 5 minutes from my house so I was going to go pick up this card at the store since it is pretty cheap. I originally planned on getting a 560-Ti but they only have those online so I would have to get a reference model EVGA card.

The only thing keeping me from going though are the reviews of it. I am usually Nvidia only but I remember XFX being good back when they were on the green team so I figured I would give them a shot with ATI.

What are the reviews saying? I always take Newegg and site related reviews with a grain of salt.

What kind of review are you looking for? I pretty much have the same card but mine has the dual fan heat sink. I believe mine is the XXX edition. Anyway it's been very good to me so far. Easily OC'd to 1000 / 1450 but the temps were in the low to mid 80's so I backed it down to 950 / 1400 and temps stay in the low to mid 70's.

Anyway here is a benchmark I did.. not really sure what your looking for.

Across multiple sites the same issues are brought up in the reviews, leading me to believe they are issues with the whole line of cards or at least a particular batch.

Stuff like:
- Drivers causing constant BSOD's
- Not operating right under cool temperatures but properly under hot temperatures
- Random crashes with older games, as well as office applications and even sometimes the desktop

See, it's hard to make a decision with issues like that being mentioned, because all of those issues have a lot to do with drivers or PEBKAC, really. I've been on 11.4 since release now, no related BSOD's yet. Only thing I have had was a constant DirectX BSOD, but a reformat fixed that since you can't really reinstall DirectX.

I would say go for it. If you have issues within the first month or so, just get your money back.

XFX non-reference cards in general have a reputation for being low quality.

I bought that card, had the same problem almost everyone is talking about, I had to RMA it but havent tried the new one since I havent recieved it yet, but if those reviews were posted when I bought mine, I wouldnt have bought it.

In few words, if you still want a 6950 1gb, get sapphire or if you want to keep it Nvidia, a 560 TI from MSI TF-2.

I think their return policy is an exchange for the same item on defects only, so once I buy this my only option would to exchange it for another one if it doesn't work.

Yeah I was looking at the 560-Ti before and was set on getting one but this is supposed to be better for roughly the same price. This one though is pretty cheap compared to the rest of them, and it is only $219 after a rebate which I don't mind doing... but that still sets it a good bit cheaper than any of the others I can find.

I have the XFX 5770 and have had zero problems with it, save for removing the gobs of factory TIM and re-applying so i am not bashing XFX...

This does concern me.

Issue a cardd, get great reviews from web reviewers then do a pcb swap...

I would avoid this card if you can't get a refund or exchange for a different item.

XFX products have been serving very well so I have no problems with XFX. I don't OC 24/7 so I think my cards are less prone to problems than those who do.
