AMD 555 x2 HELP!!

post #1 of 12
Thread Starter
Hi!

My Story...
I have an AMD 555 x2, and I unlocked it to x4. I ran stress test for about 5 hours and there is no problem at all. So then I decide to overclock my cpu. I overclocked my CPU to 3.6Ghz and ran prime95 for about 2 hours. No problems there at all. Then I decided to overclock it even more. Right now I am at 4.02Ghz. Ran stress test for about 2 hours and still no problems.

My Problem...
I ran a few programs to see the temperature and all of them except speed fan doesn't show the temperature. They say 0C(32F). Speedfan seems to read my cpu but I am not sure if my temperature is right. I play SC2 for about 2 hours my cpu temps does not go pass 50C. When I go into BIOS it shows my temps around 36C... idleing in BIOS. I AM SCARED THAT MY CPU MAY BURN OUT BUT I LOVE THE NUMBER 4, so should I be scared or the temperature or should I be fine?

You are completely fine, most temperature monitoring programs are never 100 percent correct & for me Speedfan has never worked in terms of measuring my CPU temperatures correctly (its sorta buggy) When you are in Bios, your CPU has no load so the temps are fine_

I suggest you get HWMonitor its a neat little program if you havent yet.

If your CPU is overheating, you'll BSOD, or the computer will shut itself off, if it hasn't done so yet, then you are within safe limits_

Yeah I tried HWmonitor and it said all my core temps at 0C. But it has TMPIN0 33C, TMPIN1 40 and TMPIN2 21C. Dunno what those are

TMPIN0 = CPU Core temps
TMPIN1 = NB Temps
TMPIN2 = ?? <-- I personally don't know what this temp is for, but I keep thinking its the southbridge temps

If you unlock your processor, a lot of the times, you'll lose temperature monitoring on individual CPU cores

often times turning on the unlock feature disables temp sensors.

theres not much you can do except try and use a thermometer.

the diode stop reading when you unlock,as long as you stay below 62c socket temp,your ok.

Looks like the sensors stopped working when you unlocked it.

If you have a quality cooler and keep voltages in check, you should be okay. I would just be slightly nervous about taking it too far, I would stop at 1.45v personally since you can't monitor temperatures.

my experience with unlocking the 555 is that the core temp sensors no longer work resulting in a 0 C most likely this is the lower limit of either the sensor or that the software can register. the cpu temp that is displayed is the socket temp and will be within a couple of degrees of the actual core temp depending on your cooling and overclock. if you want to have a better idea of exactly how the temperatures relate re lock the cores while maintaining your overclock and then compare the core temp to the cpu temp and this will give you a good idea of the difference once you unlock.

staying under 50C should be fine and i wouldn't worry to much about it

what cpu cooler are you using?

lock them up for 1 boot
compare tmpin1 and the core temps under load for 15 minutes
to figure a socket/cpu offset
ex. if cpu cores = 45c and tmpin1 = 35c, offset = +10c

then use that to figure out the cpu temps
ex. tmpin1 = 50c your cores are around 60c

if its over 62c downclock it til it stays around 55-60c

I am using the Artic Cooling Freezer 7 Pro Rev.2

The thing is when I run the stress test my tmpin# go really high, 0 at 50ish, 1 at 60ish, 2 at low 30.

But I was playing SC2 and Modern Warfare 2 for a few hours, (TMPIN)0 never goes pass 38-40, 1 never passes 48C, and 2 is always low.
