Ocing Q6600 to at least 3ghz

Thread Starter
so i was reading around the OCing guides here but im still not confident/not sure about this.

i was able to do 2.8GHz with 1260fsb and 1.38vcore. i left everything else as is (auto).

i tried going up to 1300 at 1.39, it booted fine but locked up while in a game (too lazy to use stress tests, would rather have fun until it crashes lawlz). i know it is possible to get it to 3ghz but i dont know what settings i should be playing with, such as the different kinds of voltages (NB, SB, VTT, memory etc)

i reverted back to stock settings for now until im ready to do it again.

my stock settings are:

2.4ghz 1066fsb, 9 multiplier and every voltage setting on auto.
memory is at 800mhz 4-4-4-12

thanks.

You can maybe get a FSB of 333. Pair that with a multi of 9, should give you 3ghz.
You should not need more than stock vcore or a little over stock vcore for 3ghz if you have a G0 revision but give it 1.4v in bios for starters.
Use a mem multi of 2.4 with your stock timings and voltage.
Bump the NB voltage a few notches.
Manually set PCIE freq @ 100mhz.
I know the 680i chipset is not that great for OCing older quad cores (this one in particular) but IMO it should be able to push a FSB of 333mhz.

This board isn't able to maintain high FSB with Quad's due to the inabiliy to adjust the GTL reference voltage wihin the BIOS. The only way round this currently is to perform a volt mod on the board to raise the default GTL voltage.

Other than that, I have found that the 1203 BIOS plays with Quads better, so I suggest that you "downgrade" to that BIOS as 1302 only added a couple of peripheral compatibilities anyway.

You don't need a high FSB for a Q6600, but the 680i doesn't like quads very much. It also often suffers from "FSB black holes" where certain ranges of FSB won't boot. Mine wouldn't boot 350FSB with a Q6600 for example, but it would boot 400.

680i + Q6600 you'll have to do alot of trial-and-error. On a P45 board you could do 3.0 on stock VCore with a decent G0 stepping Q6600.

mine runs 3.8ghz like a champ but it took many hours of trail and error and there are lots of FSB holes too

well i got up to 2.9 with 1290fsb, 9 multi, 1.35 vcore and i think i set the nb to 1.3. anything higher than 1290 it will not boot. is that enough to not bottleneck a 560 GTX? i might do something about my memory later on too.

I have a similar board, and I cant seem to get mine to OC at all really.
Im beginning to hate this board <_<
Some motherboards are just not made to be OC'ed. I've had a MSI P7N Platinum with all the fency copper, 8PIN cpu, blabla, would not even overclock 10Mhz past 333 FSB.
