Best setup, and what is required?

Thread Starter
In my house the internet connection comes into a room on the upper floor. I am located downstairs and have been told that setting up a wired connection is not an option.

What I want:
-wireless internet connection to my room on the lower floor
-PC, 360, and PS3 connected together through a wired connection, mainly to optimize media sharing from the PC
-PC, 360, and PC to be able to access the wireless internet connection

Would connecting to the internet through a wireless adapter on my PC, and then sharing that connection through a switch attached to the PCs ethernet port work?

Should I buy a second wireless router or (bridge?) and attach the three devices to it? How would this be set up?

Is there another option? I'm looking for the simplest method. Thanks for any help!

If i were in your shoes... i would wireless router the internet from upstairs to downstairs, then get a Linksys Wireless-G PCI Card WMP54G Network adapter for your PC or use a laptops wireless internet card, and share the connection to ps3 using a crossover cable and xbox 360 with a regular cat5e... i dont exactly know if you can use a router with both the xbox and ps3 because of network traffic and ps3 requires a crossover cable. someone else may be able to help you further but this is what ive found to be a great start. if anything you could just keep the two cables running into the pc one at a time labled ps3 and xbox 360

In your situation i would grab myself a wireless router and use it to bridge and connect your consoles using the routers built in switch.

If interested and that is how you decide to go i have networking hardware in the FS section.
