I do hope there is more to overclocking with ivy bridge though, fighting to get to the max clocks is half the fun & sandy just makes it too easy, takes 10 minutes to get to 5.5Ghz & no tweaks or cooling will get any more.
As far as performance though, sandy kicks ass clock for clock.
+1

I really think Sandy shines in grinders and gamers .... 4.8 to 5 Ghz 24/7 on water is insane, and as stated any tom dick or Henrietta can get there with out to much trouble.

I am also hopeful Ivy brings back the mojo for the the benching crowd ....
New pot and dewar are ready for some action

I had actually thought I would be sticking with my LGA775 for another 2 years but SB had ruined that for me Hopefully my SB rig will outlast the marriage I had with LGA775

Understand that first, yes, the new 2xxx series is faster but not by a large margin clock for clock.
It might not be much faster per clock but if you also take into account that they can overclock much higher than an i7 920 can without having to go into extreme cooling that's quite a bit of gain seeing how people are easily attaining at least 700MHz over what you have now.

Might not be worth $400-$500 to you but there's a lot of difference if you look at it from that point of view.

The performance SB offers at it's price point is pretty amazing for a budget builder like me. My games run smoother than I ever imagined they could. This is coming off of an ancient Athlon 64 X2though , so the performance jump seems pretty exaggerated to me compared to some other upgraders.

Comming from an AMD 1055t x6 the 2500k is a pretty decent upgrade. Am running mine a 4.4GHz as anything over requires pll overvolt and loss of sleep function which I use frequently use. I have used Amd exclusively since building my first rig in the late 90s i must say my first intel experirnce has been good. Sandy=Win

I must admit I wasn't expecting it to do as well as it is but Im happy with my purchase of SB I haven't been as happy with a CPU since the days of AMD FX series OC really well and plays any game I throw at it with low temps.

Happy as hell.

Came from a E6750 @ 3.2GHz, so the performance increase was huge for me.
