Help me choose the better.

Thread Starter

Hey people of the Audio section. I've been lurking here for awhile always learning about all the things about audio I guess. I really want to start getting some good audio, but I need some advice for picking the right components.
I've come up with all the possible solutions that would fit my budget.
And just if you want to know, my budget would be around $70-90 for both a soundcard and a pair of headphones.

Soundcard:

Xonar DG
http://www.google.com/search?rlz=1C1...F-8&q=xonar+dg
Xonar DS
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...Tpk=xonar%20ds
X-Fi XtremeMusic
http://us.store.creative.com/Sound-B...B000AY7A1I.htm

Headphones:
JVC RX700
Superlux HD681
Samson SR850

Coming to the conclusion of my thread, I need to tell you what I am looking for. I say I game 60% and a listen to music 40% of the time.
For the soundcard, I think I might go with the XtremeMusic. I can get it used from OCN for a great price, and might actually mod it if I feel in the mood too. If you object to this please state otherwise. Also, if there are any special drivers for the XtremeMusic for Windows 7 64-bit posting it here would be nice.
For the headset, I am looking to get the JVC RX700s as they are recommended much here. I currently have

which I actually find not bad at all. The bass is wonderful, and I really don't want to lose much of it. I might actually keep it, but if you feel I should get a new pair go ahead and tell me. Would CMSS-3D work well on my headphones? I haven't done much research but are the Superlux or Samsons any good?
I need a pair of headphones with decent bass, and ones that have a good soundstage, all the other good stuff. Including good performance with CMSS-3D.

Sorry for the long post. All answers are appreciated and will be thought of.
Thanks.

Quick Edit: I forgot to add in comfort. I really want circumaural and something that I can wear for I say 5-8 hours straight. A little less is fine too. The Deep Bass I have are extremely uncomfortable for me. As for open or close back, I would prefer open to hear my family members, but semi-open like the RX700s are perfect. Thanks again.

Well good luck tbh

It is called the XB series for a reason. It is excess bass (and not in a good way in terms of musical accuracy).

I can't comment on the other 2, but for what it's worth I liked the SR850, to me it's a mix between the HD555 and the M50 (both of which I have heard) more bass the hd555, slightly less soundstage. I think it's pretty balanced, definitely worth the $40 price tag.

18 dollars for a Xonar DG, then choose the Samson SR850s if you want bassy headphones for a cheap price that can game better than M50s.

Skip the sound card. Stick with the ALC892 on your mobo. Put all of that budget into getting AD700s.

People who tell you that any of those cheapo sound cards is better than the Realtek are a) mistaking distortion for quality or b) having their perceptions altered by their expectations.

And if someone tells me that b) isn't a real phenomenon, well, you better do a Google scholar search.

onboard sound with the AD700 headphones is truly terrible. Hard to see that you recommended the poster stay with it.
