People who tell you that any of those cheapo sound cards is better than the Realtek are a) mistaking distortion for quality or b) having their perceptions altered by their expectations.

And if someone tells me that b) isn't a real phenomenon, well, you better do a Google scholar search.

I respectfully disagree as I've been using dedicated sound cards and well as Realtek onboard for years and the difference, at least to me, is night and day. I will likely never own a computer without a dedicated card unless the onboard is drastically improved. The difference is even noticeable with cheap $20 headphones.

I dunno all the realteks you've used, but if your sig rig is the latest one you've used then there probably is a real difference.

But you do realize, that your one of the only people I know prefering onboard rather a dedicated sound card. Plus, sound cards take load off CPUs.

I've compared that exact chipset to my DAC and can easily tell a difference. It's not an incredible DAC either and is surpassed by high end soundcards.

All I'm saying is that for all the headphones in your OP--the RX700s for sure--the ALC892 will take care of you. Also CMSS-3d is a big no no. That distorts your sound too.

CMSS-3D for music, Yes. For games, no.

It just distorts your sound.
I seriously doubt there has been that much improvement since my 680i board was released. Onboard audio has been of low quality forever and for it to suddenly be comparative to my HT Omega Claro Plus+ or my Bgears b-enspirer is just nonsense.

The Realtek onboard chipsets are as bad as they ever were.

Even if you get digital out for free, the analog absolutely sucks.

there has been significant improvement in onboard sound, however there has also been significant development in soundcards as well thus the gap in sound quality is still there.
