Sims 3 crashes to desktop

Thread Starter
I downloaded and bought Sims 3 from Steam. The game installed fine. After I create my Sim and start playing,it crashes to desktop.

I have updated the video card drivers,as well as the sound card drivers. Is there more drivers I should be updating as well?

This is an infamous issue. Disable DEP. That should do it. I also recommend that you force v-sync via your video cards control panel (might not work for ATi/AMD, it didn't last I knew). This game overheats/kills GPUs (and I wish I were kidding, Google it).
