It doesn't work that way. You can't just sell it for near MSRP or something. New ones can be found far cheaper than the $1,000 you paid, and it's been superseded now. The CPU isn't worth $1,000 anymore (especially used). The Core i7 990x superseded it, so yours was pushed down in value, moreso since it's used. I know it still says $999 looking it up, but it seems to have been phased out (that was Intel does versus dropping prices it seems, so while it's listed as $999, it's not quite "worth" as much) since the Core i7 990x is also listed at $999. There's also the Core i7 970, which makes a hexa-core possible without the big money, let alone the performance Sandy Bridge offers for the dollar.
The matter is, the price that sort of higher end equipment goes for makes it a poor value, and the market for that is very
small as it is, especially when someone wants to try and sell a used one right up there. Extreme Edition CPUs (and other top of the line parts) are always
like this. They are overpriced to begin with, and then when something either supersedes it, or something else offers more than it for less money, both of which have happened by the way, who will want to buy a used one for close to what you paid for it? You need to look at it as a buyer.
I'm not trying to make you feel put down or anything. It's a great PC(s) and will fetch more than most, but... not that much. I'm just trying to explain it. This is the fact of the matter and we all live with it (and we all hate it), and it's only worse the higher up the chain you go, and yours is right up there. The top of the line always deteriorates faster. PCs are a poor investment. You'll hardly ever get out of them anywhere near what you put it or what they're "worth" even.
In any case, good luck with what you're after. I wish I could tell you what it's "worth" but I don't know. I just wanted to explain this.Edited by Princess Garnet - 5/16/11 at 11:57pm
