Upgrade maybe? Possibly? Or wait?

Thread Starter
I have about $400 that I can use to upgrade my computer. One of the things I know I want to upgrade is my hard drive. I have an old sata that is probably the slowest thing in my computer. I am thinking about getting a WD Black to replace my current hard drive and possibly a small SSD just for windows 7.

I think my video card is good to go for a good while longer. The only other thing I can think of upgrading is my CPU. I feel that I can wait another year or so to upgrade my CPU though.

I use my computer for surfing the web, watching/downloading movies, listening to music, and playing games like SC2.

Sitting here typing all this I am thinking to myself that all I need to upgrade is my hard drive. After all my hard drive's windows score is 5.9. My CPU with no overclock still achieves a 7.1 and my memory gets a 7.1 as well. I don't need high benchmark scores to boost my ego. I just want a great day to day computer.

Agree. The rest of you system will be bottlenecked by the HD you have. You can get several good SSDs for that price.

I don't think you need to upgrade ANYTHING for the uses you specified. Getting a SSD only improve load times in games and improves the speediness of programs. Its much more useful to programmers or graphic designers than us gamers. I would wait for bulldozer/IVY to come out before upgrading. Wait for games that you anticipate to play to come out first then upgrade based on how much power u need to run those games.

i had the same windows score in my hard drive department and i upgraded to raid 0 WD blacks and i was STOKED.

the jump from raid 0 WD Blacks to SSD was negligible though

That would depend on which SSD you are using, and which driver you are using.

I have 4 samsung f3s in raid 5 and they still don't beat the SSD I have.
