Crucial SSDs have always been that way. The write speeds are highest on their 256GB models.

Crucial uses a lot of pre-calculated garbage collection. Their C300/C400 SSDs pre-calculate the ideal spots to write/compact stuff, leading to a minimal number of write/erases. This provides maximum NAND lifespan, but means they do slow to a crawl under heavy workloads. Sandforce and Intel SSDs have a "Heavy use" mode that they flip into, which maintains much higher performance during super heavy use.

http://www.anandtech.com/show/4253/t...400-ssd-review

Anandtech did an interesting review - they found that under light workloads (daily use), the M4 is nearly as fast as the Vertex 3 (in real-world tests) - but also that under constant heavy use, performance degrades to as little as 5-10% of the advertised write speed. (~3.5MB/sec? )

With the same tests the Vertex 3 and new Intel SSDs maintain write speeds well over 100-150MB/sec.

Horrible idea. These SSDs can't cope with that. They need TRIM.

it was free shipping for me. also, my cousin got it for ~87 shipped to his house in orange county

I picked mine up already by going to the new "will call" pick up center in City of Industry an hour ago.

for some reason, it was something like $.50 more expensive to pick it up. different tax I guess

I was already going there to pick up my case and memory but luckily got the drive as well since I stayed up pretty late yesterday

The 128 is better but I just need a tiny boot drive. I found the 60gb drives to be perfect for my needs

Possibly a local recycling fee?

Yea, I also got charged $87, but this is not really worth reselling because you would have to charge a personal $100-$110 shipped. Your profit would be like $10-15 LOL
