$1500 Gaming Build

Thread Starter

Hey guys ... trying to get together a new $1500 build that will last for another 2 years of gaming (hopefully). Right now I'm targeting $1500, but that's not a hard ceiling . I'd appreciate a look over.

From what I've ready, I5-2500K is the way to go, and the I7-2600K doesn't provide $100 extra worth of advantage. Other ideas on GPU would be appreciated.

Case: Antec 300 Illusion
Mobo: ASrock Z68 Extreme4
CPU: I5-2500K
Memory: G.SKILL 8 GB DDR3 1600
GPU:

PSU: HDD: 1 TB Samsung for storage, Crucial C300 128 GB SSD
CPU Cooler: Noctua NH-D14

What are your thoughts on SLI/CF? The above post looks great, but an SLI/CF would provide even better performance. It's really up to you if you prefer the a single card solution for quietness, power consumption and ease of use. However, an SLI setup with 560 Tis or 6950s 1GB could be had for the same price as a 580 and handily outperform it.
I agree with the above post.. why get a GTX 580 when you can get GTX 560ti SLI for around the same price?

Core i5 2500k - $220
Antec 300 - $70
Corsair TX750 - $110
8GB's G-skill - $100
Asrock mobo - $200
2 x GTX 560ti's - $480

$1180.

The rest for your HDD's, SSD's and any other goodies you could imagine needing.
OR EVEN POSSIBLY an i7 2600k

Are 2 cards in SLI better than 1 big one? Isn't the Z68 limitation that it runs the PCI-E at 8 lanes instead of 16 when there's 2 cards in it?

Yes, 2 560s would best a 580 by a very solid margin. Take a look here: http://www.hardwareheaven.com/review...s-gtx-580.html

They will run in 8x mode but that has little effect on performance over 16x, its like 2-3 FPS max.
I would go with the build above it's pretty nice and will allow you to upgrade later. While the 2 cards in SLI or CF now will outperform for the same price, you don't leave any roon to add performance later. This way you can buy 1 580 now and then later next year when prices drop on it you can pick up a second and give yourself a boost as new games come out.

Thats just my opinion though.

If you are running 1 screen at 1920x1080, a GTX 580 is more than enough by a huge margin. SLI 560's would be overkill unless you do plan to run 3 screens in nVidia surround.
