That's a big part of the reason I didn't play it, combat made 0 sense but, also, performance on my system was terrible.
Instead of a long post I'll just summarize, I pirated back then, I quit that years ago though, and a combination of my insufficient hardware back then with terrible performance and the combat which didn't make sense lead me to never try it again after my original 15 minute splurge through it. Emphasis on the terrible hardware, I struggled to run the game above 25 fps on mid-low settings, the resolution I ran at the time was likely just too high for an AGP card with a game that had post processing effects. I had a 1680x1050 LCD, once the next gen post processing games came out it hammered performance down to unplayable levels.
A few months ago I got the best version which is the Enhanced Director's Cut on Steam for something like $10-15. I tried it with my 1GB 9600GT and it looked and ran amazingly well but I just never got into it.
I haven't tried it with the new card in my sig yet but I just might since everyone has always told me once you figure out the combat system it's an amazing game.
I think TW might be my next splurge into a game, a very long splurge too since it looks enormous, especially with all the extra content.
