GUIDE: How to Overclock your Laptop - Mobility Radeon Graphics Card!

Thread Starter
Caution! Be warned of the following!

1) Overclocking your graphics card will technically void any warranty that have on your laptop. I say technically, because the act of overclocking does breech the terms in the warranty, but it's improbable that anyone will ever find out, or care for that matter.

2) Laptops obviously cram a lot of hardware into a small package. The hardware creates a lot of heat when it's all packed in tight, and the small form factor of the laptop leaves little room for sufficient cooling. For this reason laptop GPUs are intentionally underclocked as to prevent overheating.

With that being said, you can see how overclocking the GPU can be potentially harmful to your system. Overclocking desktop GPUs is simply a matter of pushing the hardware further than what the manufacturer deemed reasonable for that GPU. When it comes to laptops, overclocking the GPU is not just a matter of pushing hardware limits but rather completely disregarding the manufacturer's idea of what is reasonable and safe.

THIS IS HOW YOU DO IT!

1. Download & Install Rivatuner: http://www.guru3d.com/rivatuner/

2. Download GPU-z : http://www.techpowerup.com/downloads/SysInfo/GPU-Z/

3. Launch Rivatuner then close Rivatuner so the Rivatuner.cfg will be created.

4. Open the folder where Rivatuner is installed, open Rivatuner.cfg with Notepad.

5. Google for your Graphic Cards rv number. For example Radeon 3650 + rv.

6. Find your graphic card in the Rivatuner.cfg (Notepad) by searching for your cards RV number. for example rv635.

7.Then add your last 4 numbers in Device ID then add a "h" without any space between (Check your Device ID with GPU-z)

device id+h , for example 9591h

8. Open Rivatuner again, select Low-level system settings then overclock as you want, be careful... overclock small (2-5MHz) then test if it is stable by running a Benchmark.

9. Benchmarks for testing
3DMARK03 - Good for older computers

3DMARK Vantage - Good for newer computers.

You should be able to overclock...
Mobility Radeon X300, X600, X700, X800 Series
Mobility Radeon X1xxx Series
Mobility Radeon HD 2xxx Series
Mobility Radeon HD 3xxx Series
Mobility Radeon HD 4xxx Series
Mobility Radeon HD 5xxx Series
Mobility Radeon HD 6xxxM Series
Mobility FireGL/FirePro series

This is the best way to overclock your ATI/AMD Mobility Radeon gpu!

I managed to get a 20-25% FPS Increase in every game smile.gif

Does anyone know the RV for the ATI Radeon HD 6770M? I can't find it.

wouldnt it use up more power resulting is a lower battery life for its performance?

I would very much like to see this kind of an increase from a mobile solution since you cannot increase voltage on any of these GPUs.

If you wouldn't mind, please post proof of your claim:
