Diablo II running on Windows 7?

So I am no n00b with computers. I load Diablo II, try to launch the game nothing happens. The Diablo II process is running in task manager and notta. I change the compatibility to Windows XP SP3 just to see if that is an issue and same result.

Try reinstalling about 3 times just to see, still not working. There is a prompt that there are known compatibility issues when trying to run this from Windows I just click run...

Is there a trick that I am missing? Anyone get this to run successfully on Windows 7 64 bit?

Have you tried other compatibilities? Run as admin? I'm not certain if it's compatible or not, I was under the impression it was.

If all else fails, VMWare.

Yea true I can VMware it. I have tried other compatibility modes, I did also try to run as admin and I have UAC turned off anyway. I have looked a little online but most of the help threads are blocked here from work so I am just curious to see if anyone here has it running successfully on a 64 bit OS.

I have got Diablo 2 up and running on my two laptops and my desktop, both using 64 bit Windows 7. I am at work, so I can't check my exact settings, but I did get it working with compatibility mode.

Step 1: make sure you are changing the compatibility stuff on the correct launcher. I forget the filename, but go into program files and find diablo2.exe (or whatever) and run as an administrator and windows XP SP3 like you have.

Step 2: go into start-programfiles-diablo2 and run the graphics config thing. Make sure the game is starting using the correct mode. Use direct draw if direct3D doesn't work or visa versa.

Step 3: Run the game! You might have some color issues at the first screen, I haven't got those to go away yet. There might be some way to use glide wrapper software (I couldn't get it working when I tried to fix it a long time again) and it is supposed to make the game look better. Google diablo 2 glide wrapper.

Well thats because when you download it, it automatically updates =).

So most likely, he just hasn't updated it. They added support for Windows vista and seven quite a while ago, so just download the newest patch and install it =).

If you have the "Lord of Destruction" expansion, just download the expansion version. If you have just the original, just download the original one.

I had this same problem with Vista!

Here's what you can try, go to properties, then compatibility, and check both "Disable Visual Themes" and "Disable Desktop Composition".

Worked perfectly after that
