8GB @ 800MHz or 4GB @ 1066MHz

Thread Starter
Which would be the fastest setup:

4 X 2GB at 800Mhz ganged/unganged
2 X 2GB at 1066Mhz

Or is there a way I can run each DIMM slot as each own channel on two dual channel DIMM slots?

8GB @ 800MHz ganged

...4GB @ 1066 could be marginally faster in benchmarks, but in the real world the extra RAM would make the rig snappier.

Depends what you are doing. Just games take the faster 4GB DIMM's. If you need 8GB for video editing etc. go with that.

Right now games only need 4GB, you have a 1GB GPU so not many games would even dip into your system RAM for help.

I hardly ever see my RAM usage go over 40%, that's why I was considering running 4GB

4GB all the way at 1066. I have been down the same road and I had OCZ Reapers @ 1066 and Corsair XMS 2 @ 800.

4GB is plenty for you.

4gb is still plenty; I would go with the 4gb of faster ram in your situation.

800Mhz at what timings?
If CL4 it'd be around same as standard 1066 CL5..... CL5 it'd be behind but depending on what you do it might not be a huge difference.

i tested gta 4 with 8gb tanscend 800 mhz 5 5 5 18 24 stock and 4gb gskill 1066 mhz 5 5 5 15 24 manually set freqency and stock timings. my conclusion is i got 45-55 fps with 35 -40 fps drops with the 800 mhz and i got 55-65 fps with 40-45 drops with the 1066...[800 temps,cpu 34.c/gpu 48.c/system 30.c] [1066 temps,cpu 41.c/gpu 48.c/system 40.c] and my multipliers are x19 makes 3800 mhz. game settings are 90% if maxed out was 100%....gta 4 is a very demanding game..go with the 1066 its only money
