Ok. I need a new laptop device for nursing school. All of our books and stuff are electronic and I need something that is ULTRA portable (for clinical work) with a touch screen. A lot of people are getting the iPad 2 but I am not so sure if it is right for me. I already have an iPhone and am not a huge fan of the iOS but it is a LOT better than Android (IMHO). I have some experiance as a power user with windows and deff prefer it. After looking around, the only things that fit my needs are:
ASUS Eee Slate ($1,100)

iPad 2 ($700)

I really like the fact that the ASUS uses a full windows OS and that it has a screen that is 2 inches bigger (I am a big guy so big is good to a point) but the price of the iPad 2 and its long battery life is a huge selling point. What is your opinion on the subject? Can you think of any good non Android alternatives?

I would have gone with the Eee Transformer but since you don't like Android the iPad 2. The Slate (While I don't know much about it) seems too expensive and the battery life I would expect is not great.

For that price, why not just get something like a Sager Notebook. There's no reason to spend that kind of money on something like this. >.<

Please give us a "neither" option, I'd expect most people to qualify for this category.

I just got an iPad 2 and I LOVE it. All of the new formated ipad apps for news sites and things are really changing the way I view the internet.

For reading, I have been reading on the kindle app and for what you need it for the iPad is probably the winner.

The key is that it is free of a keyboard and Android. I need to be able to stand and write at the same time. This is mostly for note taking on the go and for reading textbooks. The added usefulness of windows 7 on the ASUS is a bonus.

Personally, I never liked the iPad until I won one at work. I too have an iPhone and thought well it's just a large iPhone why would I need that. But I will say though after using one for about 2 months now, it is truly awesome. The battery life is indeed very long (and I own an iPad 1) and there is just a lot more things that I do with my iPad instead of my iPhone mainly because of the larger screen.

I voted for iPad 2 as I know from experience that the iPad 1 is definitely a great product and with that said iPad 2 is even better then the original.

If those are the choices, I'm going to have to go with the iPad, despite everything in my soul pulling me toward the W7 machine.

The Slate is too big, won't have the battery life, and the usefulness of the full blown OS will be greatly reduced, considering it is a tablet after all. The iPad will be more portable, handy, and you can always set it down and get real work done whenever you get to a real PC.

I would much rather go with the transformer over the iPad though, but you seem to have a firm dislike in Android.

the ASUS will have much better productivity because it is windows and generally has more powerful hardware . Really the battery life is the only reason to get the IPad over it. So if u see yourself being in a place where u can plug it in ie a desk with a plugin on or near it at school or during any down time the computer may have at your clinical s then i would definitely go with the ASUS but if u wont be able to plug it in every now and then its no good to u dead so u should go with the IPad
