You realize COD:UO had perks right? Not in the traditional "Hey you go into combat with this" but more along the lines of in game leveling system.

My favorite thing to do was Martyrdom with a satchel charge.

it wasn't really a perk per say lol, and didn't change the game one bit. I want one game company to do this.

Basic level playing field.
Health Packs (Bring them back) or no health regen and when your HP runs out your dead
Guns are either all on a map in a predifiend loadout or you select a kit.
No perks for leveling no extra scopes, guns, bonus's
No kill streak I dont want to see a heli, a UAV or a bomb strike ect

Do that and I'll play your game.

A very good point OP. If I compare BF2 to BC2. BF2 has unlocks, although it doesn't have near as many choices as BC2. I never really played conquest on BF2 so I'm not sure how it unlocks, but I have all the kits unlocked o the co-op server I play. There really isn't a whole lot of choices and it didn't take to long to get everything. After that it is a matter of preference and comes back to skills.

Now with BC2 it has a large amount of unlocks, and It takes a while (I would guess) to get all of the gadgets and weapons unlocked. Then you have your mix and matching. So for a new player in BC2 if can be daunting, as your opponents have a heck of a lot more tools at there disposal, not to mention experience. But I would guess once you get ranked up and have some experience in the game, it must be pretty awesome with all the choices and play styles available.

I think you pretty much just described BF2, other than you do have to unlock all of the kit items. As I remember it on the co-op server I played it didn't take long at all to get everything.

Whatever happened to you and a gun? Maybe a shield and regenerating health?

I still reminisce about Halo CE/Halo 2 days.

"Artillery Ready" DEFINITELY changed the game.

More grenades did as well and satchel charges were just OP.

Competitive players always want less buffs and more strict gameplay.

I think perks and the such are good for most people that play the game, but not in a dedicated skill fashion. They can still have fun getting nice weapons or making progress without dedicating tons of time to the game. Most people don't want to hone their skills over months of sharp playing.

At the end of the day, the games are NOT made for competitive players.

Edit - A noob with top tier weapons is still a noob, and perks that break the game aren't a problem with perks in general, but rather their selection and implementation of the perk or weapon in question.

skill still plays a factor , i have seen my best friend level 1 clutch a whole team many times in search and destroy hardcore in all cod titles since cod4 , many cases against people who are various levels higher than him. Although i am sure this is more directed towards non objective game play modes, the perks do help like ghost , hardened , etc. But they will be for nothing if you have no skill.

As for the killstreaks, in the non obj. game modes like tdm and ffa , they definitely can be a pain , whoever is usually first to a chopper gunner in ffa will take the match, this is why i stick to search and destroy only on servers that have tactical rule sets.

One main problem is people who complain about the perks, killstreaks, camping, bunny hopping , all the horrible things in fps , BUT you are pretty dumb to play on servers that allow things like that when it is avoidable to a great degree. A server with good admins makes that kinda stuff not exist. Even when people get some of the most powerful killstreaks in a search and destroy match its rare that it wipes a whole team.
