Thread Starter

Building a machine from scratch.. all the different versions of Win 7 on amazon are confusing..would this be the correct one to order for a new build? Any place cheaper anyone knows off hand?

You can compare the features of each W7 version here. I think it's best if you decide what you need/expect from your W7 ^^

Not sure about the price thing, maybe somebody else knows more

If you're a student with an *.edu e-mail address you could avail of Windows 7 at a very low price, IIRC.

EDIT:

W7 Pro at $29.99!!!!!

yea unfortunately no edu address..i just want a full edition that will work with a brand new build and not give me issues if i swap any parts out

This may help with your confusion over the different windows 7 that are available

as for the price thats about par unless someone can find it on sale Home premium can be had for about $100

also as for swapping parts goes if you purchase an oem copy you can always reactivate it either by phone or online once you change parts out I have windows 7 pro x64 and its been installed on more computers than I can count. Reactivation can be a hassle sometimes but atleast you dont have to buy a new copy

The limit of installs refers to how many computers can use that particular key at the same time ie. installing it on two machines at the same time with the same code. I think windows 7 is only a one machine at a time OS where as before sometimes you could get 3 machines at once out of a key.

Is there any particular feature in Windows 7 Professional that you really need? Bitlocker perhaps? The ability to join a domian?

Because if there is none, why not go for the Windows 7 Home Premium Family Pack:

http://www.microsoftstore.com/store/...RefID.87DFFF11

For $149.99 you get to install it on three computers.
