Continuing its push into the HPC (high performance computing) market, Nvidia today introduced its most powerful Tesla card yet, the Tesla M2090 which features 512 CUDA Cores and 6GB of on-board GDDR5 memory, and is capable of up to 665 Gigaflops of peak double-precision performance.

Seen below, the new Tesla card is suited for use with GPU-acceleration applications like MATLAB, GADGET2, GPU-BLAST, AMBER, NAMD, GROMACS and others.

The Tesla M2090 has already been adopted by HP for its ProLiant SL390 G7 4U server which can house eight such cards, and two CPUs.

In all seriousness, I love these, they bring affordable supercomputing to consumers, which really enables more breakthroughs and research on less funded projects where they cannot afford to rent supercomputers to run problems.

They should not be any better than GeForce card for Folding... these are just slightly hardware modified cards with good driver support.

$4K for enterprise hardware is really not that much. A basic quad-core server with 6GB RAM costs around $3K.

Workstation cards aren't quite economical. One of Nvidia's main reasons for these GPGPU's is high frequency trading. Found it hilarious that they even spoke about it(HFT) in one of their newsletters.. http://www.nvidia.com/content/newsletters/web/CUDA-Week-in-Review-Feb-04-11.html
