Cheap upgrade from e5300 and 4830.

Thread Starter
I was thinking about upgrading to Phenom II. I need help choosing, what CPU and mobo and GPU combo. I wish to upgrade because I picked up Bad Company 2 on steam about a week ago @ $6.80 !!! I will probably buy Battlefield 3 and would like a PC that can run it nicely.

I have an e5300 atm paired with an ATI 4830 !

What are your toughts ??

Grab a 48XX card (30/50/70/90) and go crossfire and perhaps grab a Q6600? Should get you pretty good fps and last a while - in total that would be ~ $200 total which is a fairly cheap upgrade

Depends how cheap you want to go.

A 1055t and 6870 would be a nice upgrade and if you went for a crossfire board you could grab a second 6870 later and blitz most games

Was running a 965 with a single 6870 and was able to max all settings for BC2 with 30 ish fps. Then when I added a second 6870 it was a power house.

I'm selling a GTX 460 if you're interested. That'd definitely be an upgrade, and I could easily max BFBC2 at 1680x1050 with lots of eyecandy

I wonder what kind of upgrade in FPS I would get if I'd go for a 6870 + Q8400

Don't get a Q8400 - 6600 is cheaper and will overclock MUCH better, most GO will get in the 3.6 - 4ghz range, 6870 is a nice little card, but another 48XX card in crossfire would allow you to keep your current card and be a significantly cheaper upgrade while providing good performance

Have you tried TigerDirect?

EDIT: Q6600 has been discontinued I think. Get a Q8400 or something similar instead, it's the same or better than the Q6600.

You might be able to find a used one someplace too fairly cheap. I bought a q6600 ~90$ for a friends computer a while back I got it off ebay you could try there.

Edit: could also get something like this to cool it if you wanna oc http://www.ncix.com/products/?sku=41...e=COOLERMASTER its decent and It goes on sale all the time it was on sale on the weekend for 15 bucks!.

The q6600 is a hot chip thats for certain

NCIX shopper eh?
If you're local to Vancouver... (just an idea ) they usually have nice GPUs for price
