Noctua NH-D14 - Different fan orientation = Better cooling?

I'm fairly certain someone has asked this but to be quite frank I'd rather not search. Sorry if I come off as a douche but I like to start my own discussions. smile.gif

Now onto the thread:

The picture on the right should actually have the 2nd fan in between the two towers as it is stock, but I didn't catch that before I uploaded. Either way it doesn't affect the point I'm trying to get across.

Option 1:
Pro: Each tower has it's own air flow.
Cons:
  • Middle intake may suck in hotter air because the bi-directional air flow might cause hot air to stir around in the case.
  • Two fans facing opposite from one another may cause suction which could affect the amount of air each fan is able to move(Ex. CFM).
Possible Fix: A good airflow case would sweep away hot air.
Thoughts: The fans are kind of far away from one another and I don't think suction would be a problem, worst case scenario the fans pull a little air from the sides of their own tower to make up for the lack of airflow in the center.

Option 2:
Pro: Airflow is flowing in one direction, usually straight into the exhaust fan of the case.
Con: Second tower is taking in warm air from the first tower.

Discuss your thoughts and or explain why one would be better than the other, results are good too! typer.gif

*If the bi-directional idea actually is proven to work I will probably buy matching Yate Loon's because the stock fans are two completely different sizes. Not sure how I will mount them as I haven't researched that but I will figure something out. Yate Loon's are also extremely cheap and I'm not too concerned with noise. I also don't mind if they die early as long as they serve me for at least a year and I can always help with the life span by adding oil as I've read here somewhere. So that's a win-win-win. cheers.gif

I read nowhere in that thread about having the fans oriented in opposite directions, although it was useful if I was determining what fans to use and what fan placement to use when having the airflow unidirectional.

That and other arrangements will be my next set of tests.
