Can't OC 2600k past 4.4ghz?

Even when I tried 1.35v (from 1.25) and followed:
http://www.clunk.org.uk/forums/overc...beginners.html. I just can't seem to break 4.4ghz. Not even 4.5
It's not a huge deal to me but I was wondering if this is common? Should I memtest my brand new ram? I have all 4 sticks of Corsair Vengeance memory in and i can get 1600mhz but not @ 8-8-8-24.
An overnight run of prime 95 blend was 100% fine 4.4ghz @ 1.24v and corsair 16gb @ 9-9-9-24.
4.4 I'm perfectly happy with just wondering why I can't break it. I've heard less sticks = better OC so perhaps this is the problem?

I believe I read only 50% of 2600k CPUs can reach 4.4 - 4.5Ghz. Don't beat yourself up. If you're really determined feed it some more voltage if you believe it's worth it.

you can break 4.4 with a K processor , i think your too worried about adding those extra volts..

My i7 870 needs close to 1.47v to run at 4.4ghz , yours will need alot less but ik thinking atleast close to 1.36-1.4v for your 4.4ghz overclock and 1.5v + for 4.8-5ghz .

I hve no experience with SB but i can get my non K 870 to 4.4 im sure u can go higher .

Sb processors are very much different from the regular i7.

Perhaps, try to push the voltage further up.
Intel has stated that the maximum safe voltage range for your CPU is 1.52V. So you can go even up to 1.45V very safely.

I believe the safe 24/7 voltage for the 2600k is 1.46v.

If you want to raise the freq via multi, you will need to raise the vcore. 1.35v is fine for ~4.4-4.8GHz depending on your chip, so your right in line with the norm.

Give it more core and see how it reacts. If the temps/voltage isnt worth it to your, back it down.

If your temps are limiting you to reach max oc, you can turn off H/T to give yourself more headroom.

I think I will because I just want to see what I can do with my chip but I don't think i'll ever go more than 1.4v 24/7. Is that statistic just conjecture though? Or is it actually stated in a review somewhere because I read that too.

I have to turn my fans up to 100% to keep under 70c under large FFTs in p95 (my HR-02 runs next to passive only has two 500rpm fans on it). This is at 4.4ghz @ 1.25v core. So I'm thinking I might not even be able to get to 1.45vcore safely.

BTW do memory timings actually make any difference - even synthetically? And what's better higher clock speed or tighter timings?

It is still early to judge the long term effects of voltage on SB chips. TBH no one really knows except maybe intels R/D team.

I think intel says max save voltage is 1.42v. But they probably undershoot the actual max safe voltage too.
