Asus gtx 570 cuii sli

Thread Starter
I'm looking at upgrading my HD 5770 to get better multimonitor performance, and I'm looking at setting up NVIDIA surround with 2 GTX 570's. I know that heat can be a problem with this kind of set up, and the ASUS 570 CU's have awesome coolers, and my MOBO has the space available to put in 2 cards this massive. My question is, do you end up wasting the cooling value they of these cards when they end up so close together? Would it be better to use 2 double slot models that leave 1 slot of space between the GPU's?

I don't know if it would be a waste to put them so close but the MSI Twin Frozers are solid overclockers and have a very good cooler, like the Direct Cu II but take only 2 slots if it ends up you shouldn't put them so close. Anyway, it shouldn't be a problem in my opinion.

It'll be about a tie between something like the TFIII with one slot between and the DCII with minimal space between, but the DCII will be quieter. Especially looking at your case, the 800D isn't exactly the airflow king, so the DCIIs would be cooler than the TFIIIs.

Besides, 2 DCIIs look beastly together.

If you don't already have a GTX570 why not just get a single card solution, GTX590 or HD6990, it will cost about $100 more, but it's a much better investment to get a single card than to get 2 mid-range cards now.

But that would be significantly hotter and louder especially since he would have to run the fans really high in his 800D and because of the heat, he won't be able to do much overclocking.

I am in the same situation as you, and for your info, my TF II cards only show a 1 degree difference at load, with one space between. If there is less than 1 slot separating, I would at least recommend some sort of direct air from a high-pressure fan to feed both cards and introduce fresh air to the top card.

I am mostly certain that I will be watercooling when i can afford the $250 in water blocks, as a hot day of ambient temps or high humidity almost certainly will lead to overheating. Try to avoid more than one 3-slot cooled GPU of you can, as they most generally disperse hot air back into the case, effectively heating the neighboring card.

Best of luck to you!

Since two reference cards can be sandwiched together can perform fine, two DCUII cards will operate even better.

direct CUII FOR SURE because they have MUCH beefier VRM's and therefore can run over 1.2v without any issues at all. The reference design would explode at that voltage.

I have 3 running in 2 systems at 100% load 24/7 and temps never go above 50*c

....at 20-25% fan speed.

They're so quiet, my laptop fan drowns out the sound.
