Cool beans. Thanks for sharing.

No it's not. If I pay for something, I want to own it permanantly. Not on a rental basis.

Fortunately this wont be staying anyway.
The weapon rental system really isn't that bad as it is an annoyance. At least the weapons are cheap. I can usually make 40k a night so it's no big deal.

There was another APB thread here on OCN a few weeks ago that someone was making a database of people's names/clans so we can all play together.

If anyone wants to get a hold of me in game my in game name on Joker is Kvjavs for my criminal.

I been playing since June of last year and got into closed beta back in the first wave of invites, and I'm glad the game is the same

Not really the same, but feels like it at times. Like with the OCA.

Wish they would add the Colby shotgun in for a vendor purchasable weapon as opposed to Armas Market only... not that I don't mind paying $4 for it, as I would like to put different modifications in it.

See ya in San Paro!

That doesn't mean I have to like it.

I don't get why people seem to think it has something to do with the amount of cash being earnt rather than a persons opinion of a particular feature. I make more than enough cash to keep me going, I just don't like renting over owning, it's really that simple.

Like I said previously, it isn't a feature that's staying so it's not a massive deal. It's simply an opinion of something I currently dislike.

Maybe I come across as someone who dislikes the game? Fun fact, I've been playing APB since it was first originally released as retail (on what was probably one of the worst graphics cards ever back then). I'm actually pretty happy that the game has been resurrected and have spent most evenings happily playing it since I downloaded the beta.

As for the rest of your post you can find me on Patriot under the IGN Shadowdancer (Criminal) and Lifeshield (Enforcer).

I'm not a fan of it either. I don't know why but I just hate having to pay for items in game with cash. (And yes, I know I don't have to actually buy them with cash if I don't want to and it won't cripple my game play)

And also, come on, one if the focal points of APB was the designing / logo creation and you're going to limit it to 7 primitive shapes for free accounts? Bahh, I'll pass.

I don't think they will get rid of it to be honest. It is a F2P game now.

I got an e-mail today advertising the first permanent weapon, for 5000 g1 credits.

Quote:
Originally commissioned by Lieutenant Inehower of the SPPD, the SR15 was an attempt to provide a weapons platform that was useful in both Close-Quarters combat and at long ranges. These carbine rifles eventually made their way into both factions' arsenals

Now it's your chance to permanently arm yourself with the Joker SR315. It features up to 3 custom modifications and is yours to own for only 4999 G1 Credits, OR only 3999 G1 Credits for Premium Players! Never be left without a heavy hitting weapon again.
This might make some people happy, although most of us just want a permanent weapon that doesn't cost money.

A sniper that doesn't do a 1 hit kill headshot isn't a sniper..its a semi auto rifle. Snipers are absolutely worthless in that game, and JGs are hardly used since the nerf. They can't balance the guns because they aren't skill based. They nerf one gun, next gun will be overpowered..so on and so forth. How many nerfs have they had to do since the original RTW release? What has it fixed? Nothing, they do less damage now and thats it.

Point being is the game rewards camping, overpowered teams, guns with modifiers over any sort of skill. I tried the beta, its same garbage that was in RTW's game. I am not sure why the devs are too stupid to realize this.

Downloaded it, installed it, played with a friend for about two hours, went to buy new weapons and saw weapons only last 10 days.

I'm assuming you have to spend real money for a weapon to be permanent? Yeah... I'm not playing a game like that.

Guess I'll give a review.

Character Customization
I love games that have in depth character customization that allows you to change all aspects of a person. Height, width, position, rotations every almost every facial or body component is great. Unlocking new clothing items, decals, to further change your character is a nice bonus when you just want to relax from doing objectives.

Server Size
The problem I had with this game even back when it originally came out was the player amount. At most, each instance in a server is limited to 50 v 50.

While the size of the maps aren't large, it still feels rather empty when just roaming around. Not to mention since this isn't an open pvp world, even if I do find someone of the opposite team, I can't do anything to them unless I'm participating in the same mission as them.

Missions and Objectives

Variety
When I think about it, mission variety is somewhat lackluster. Capture points, investigate doors/cars, pick up and drop items, and a few other things.

Even though the variety is low, due to the random location of missions I never really felt like I was doing the same thing over and over which was a good thing.

Teams
It seems the matchmaking in this game is more of an additive type of system or goes based on threat level.

Because I was level 40 on a recent mission, the system thought it was fair to put me in a 1v4 mission against 4 level 10 players. Sure, I was able to kill 2 of them at a time, but with short respawn timers and respawns being less than 100m from the objective, there was no way I could kill the entire team and do my objective before 1 was always on top of me.

I know calling for backup is an option at times, but since the system saw the 2 teams were of equal total level, I did not have an option to call for backup in these instances.

Combat
Weapons
When I first started, it felt like I couldn't hit anything and nothing would die. I quit in frustration. I logged back on later and gave it another go. I leveled up enough to buy new weapons and felt satisfied...to an extent.

I now felt like I was able to kill other players but the combat still feels inaccurate or unbalanced. In any other game I play, when I die, I can identify that my aim was off, I mis-fired, ran low on ammo, whatever.

In APB, I've literally gone up to a guy with his back to me, put a half a clip into him, saw and heard the blood splatter, just to have him do a 180 switch weapons, and kill me in 2 hits.

This wasn't lag or anything of that nature, but it's just something I can't put my finger on in regards to hitbox detection, bullet damage, health regen, or whatever the case may be.

Driving
In comparison to the original release of APB, the beta felt much more responsive. Each car felt right in terms of weight, responsiveness, acceleration, and speed.

Those are the main points of the game that I have experience in. I haven't gotten to using player modifications or clans so I can't do reviews of that, but I don't feel like I am going to be playing for much longer.

----------

Of course these are my opinions and everyone is entitled to agree or disagree with them as they like. I just felt I'd rather give a more full review then a simple "I hate the combat" or "I hate the mission types."

If you like the game, then have fun! If not, no harm done, it was free to try and play.

Am in the closed beta right now... was not very impressed to be honest. Combat just seems horrible unfortunately. The game has so much potential but I just cant play it for more then 30 minutes at a time.

It is no longer closed beta, it is open beta.

I feel the combat system could improve also

Why are you unable to play for more than 30 minutes at a time?
