Multiplatform games will continue to be made with the most common hardware in mind, and current consoles are DX9. Progress will be made, I imagine DX11 will be used in all multiplatform games when the next-gen consoles are released.

Because they made poor business decisions, which they paid for, and a better question to ask yourself is why didn't they do the same thing again?

If they said that then they were either lying or stupid, you don't need DX10 to get realistic water.

Were these multiplatform games (release on consoles at the same time as PC)? Also, there's nothing stopping developers from using DX10-11 for multiplatform games, it's just costs more money right now because DX9 must still be supported for the console versions.

Why? Because it's a console port that doesn't pay any attention to its PC gamers.
If you've looked at other top-selling multi-platform FPS's, you'll notice that consoles are around 60-90% of sales. This makes PC the minority. So PC customers are quite literally the least important of all to developers making multiplatform games, yet you expect the game to have a bunch of extra work put into it for the minority of customers? On top of that, only a minority of the PC customers (a minority of a minority), give a crap about DX10-DX11.

Show a high-quality video of a game to 100 average customers, after the video is done as them what DirectX version is uses. How many will know?

Or show half of them a video recording of a DX9 playthrough, and the other half a DX11 playthrough, after the video ask each group to rate the video between 1 and 10. I doubt the ratings would vary much between the videos.

And that's the point, why would you expect a business to implement a bunch of things that would have little bearing on the game, bother almost no customers at all, and cost them more money in the process?

Alright, alright ladies, settle down... All these scientists lyin' an' makin' me pissed...

^ just kidding.

However, I just want to make a few points clear here:

EA is in command of Crytek here, developers have really no choice in what they're releasing, and how they want it... i.e. similar to major record companies and artists. Stop blaming Crytek for the piss poor game... Blame them for joining up with EA as their distributor...

Dx11 was promised, and the fact that it still isn't released is unexcusable. It's very understandable as to why many people are still angry. It was a major selling point for many PC users. Not releasing it in my eyes is fraud

PC gaming piracy should never be solely blamed for anything... Piracy is as much of a problem on PC's as on consoles, they can be blamed in equal proportions. Bringing Crysis 2 to consoles was not because of PC piracy (can such claims please, STOP) it was about opening up to a broader user base for more profit... Piracy is an excuse used to "sell out", but I really don't have a problem with games being multi-platformed provided all copies retain the same quality. Who does this well? Just saying, Valve does a pretty damn good job of retaining consistency amongst platforms...

Also, while you can blame the people for piracy, it's also very much the lack of an actual system to encrypt things properly. If you want to see a system that's doing anti-piracy right, look at Steam...

As for FuNkDrSpOt's claim that LFD2 was the $50 DLC to LFD, I'd beg to differ. It's a complete single player campaign (which is why I buy games in the first place) and it has an upgraded multiplayer... Calling it DLC is relatively foolish in light of such differences.

Really, that's all I wanted to rant about (also wanted to showboat my fanboism for Valve :3)... If only every company could act like Valve, as they've failed to dissappoint me once.

Thanks, keep it civil,

InF3Rnus

+1.

DX11 patch won't do anything. The game is way more problems then just an outdated API engine.

So glad I Bought Witcher2. I already have more hours into it than Crysis2, including the COD wannabe MP.

Yes it should, but for some reason Lordikon believes announcing it is not coming out days before launch absolves Crytek of the months of saying it would. rolleyes.gif

Very true. It is blatantly obvious this game was designed with consoles in mind. I really hope that thought payed off for Crytek, because the next game thy make is likely a no buy, for me, if it fails as hard as this one does.

So glad I snagged this for $30 or I would be very bitter. As it is I am just disappointed.

Like others have said before, it seems that selling products on promises is becoming common place. "Oh, it will support so-and-so on the next patch" or "the next firmware update." Then the patch/firmware update doesn't come for months or not at all. And if one does come it might provide faulty capability or a small chance of it actually working like advertised. The companies already have your money so the only thing they have to worry about is their reputation.

I stopped buying products that didn't offer the capability I wanted at the time of purchase.

OT: $10 for 4 maps seems like a lot. If they were good maps then the price might be justified. If only we had a way to try out the DLC and then buy them if we liked them. Then again, we don't get that opportunity with most games without them being some kind of Beta build.

My God, you'd think it was the very worst game ever made! Get past the console port/DX9 stuff and Crysis 2 is still a very fun and exciting game (at least in SP). Jeez....

You're "we are customers, and they are a company" part is EXACTLY the truth, which is why they weren't stupid enough to delay a product for months for a feature that most of their customer base doesn't understand or even care about, and wouldn't notice even if it were used. If using DX11 made them more money you know they would've used it, but the point is that implementing it would've cost more money with little to no benefit to the customers.
Yet it was still announced, and one would expect them to launch it within a reasonable time period. Shogun 2 WASN'T announced that it would have DX11, and yet the latest patch included DX11. Shogun 2 was released nearly the same date as Crysis 2. That tells me that Crytek are taking their customers for granted.

Also that part about 0.5% of the gamers is completely baseless. If that were true, graphic card makers wouldn't be doing such extensive R&D and would probably not make as much profit as they do.

Em, not really. I find it quite boring. That is just my opinion of course. The same way that you consider it to be fun is yours.

$10 to play with the same people for hours and hours.
After getting this game for $12, DLC for $10 is ridiculously expensive.
Hell are you talking about the game is ALWAYS full of players. I have it set up so that no full or empty rooms show up, and a great amount of results show up! It even tells me that THOUSANDS of servers are filtered JUST because they are full......
