PC 1080p gaming on a TV versus Xbox 360 1080p - Page 2

Have you tried dvi instead? I know exactly what the op is saying and sometimes with some tvs dvi looks sharper than hdmi....

Was expecting this thread to be slightly different. I can't help you with your problem sorry, but I can tell you that you should definitely be getting a much nicer picture than anything a console will show. The main reason for this is that console games are all upscaled, I don't believe there is a single true 1080p game on Xbox or PS3, they are all 720p or lower, and then upscaled to 1080p, which will never look as good as true 1080p like your computer can produce.

Is it really as simple as anistropic filtering?

Someone was complaining about this before. Turned out he didn't have his PC outputting the native resolution of the TV the whole time.
AMD, I give up.

I agree, I'm pretty sure this is your problem. Just because your resolution in Windows is 1920x1080 does not mean that is what the game's resolution is set to. I have a feeling that your games resolution is being set to a lower res, try going into the graphics options and upping the resolution as well as the AA, AF and everything else, just make sure you're still getting acceptable FPS.

Actually my PC desktop looks just as bad as the game. It's not res, unless it needs to be even higher than 1080p for some reason.

Hmm, what is your exact resolution? You might be in 1980x1200 when you should be in 1980x1080 or vice versa.

Also what TV is it, I know my Vizio takes the Xbox 360's "1080p", but when you use it as a monitor the native resolution is 1336x768, and while the TV is 1080p capable, everything looks too small and squished, but is crystal clear when at 1336x768. Maybe try 1336x768?

Description:

I have experimented twice with PC gaming on an HDTV. Once with a 55" rear-projection TV and now with a 130" HD projector. While gaming on a huge screen can be very nice, the picture fidelity is not quite up to par. For instance, playing a game on Xbox 360 looks very sharp. The UI looks very readable. Everything is very smooth and sharp. My PC desktop on the other hand looks overblown and all the text looks smudged or something. I'm trying to give an idea of how the PC picture just looks generally fuzzy, smudged, or imprecise. It doesn't compare to the way the Xbox 360 picture looks so sharp and exact. In fact, looking at UIs or text on the TV strains my eyes very hard and is very uncomfortable. I can't bear it so I thought I would post here and see if anyone could help.

Help?!?111!?

So what is my problem here? I'm of course outputting at the right resolution: 1080p. My 470 appears to be seeing the projector as a recognized monitor. So is there some graphics setting to adjust to give it less taxing appearance on an HDTV?

I don't get you OP!!!1!

If you have no clue what I'm talking about but you would like to experience it for yourself, simply plug your graphics card's HDMI cable into your TV and behold the unedited chaos that is what I am experiencing.
Your problem is that your PC monitor has a much higher pixel density than your TV, and objects will be noticeably clearer, since you're sitting so much closer. You should sit a lot further away from your TV.

An up-to-date PC will, for the most part, utterly DESTROY any console.

Write this down and cherish it.
