also remember, a 6970m is not even close to a 6970.
i was told a 6970m is more like a 5770.

not sure about that though...

A 5870m is closer to the 5770. Im not sure how much faster a 6970m is compared to a 5870m though.

The 6970M is based off a desktop 6850, and has ~12% lower clock speeds. From the benchmarks I've seen, it is just about the same performance as a 6850 just subtract 10-15% off the FPS.

Out of curiosity OP? Did you get the 1GB or 2GB 6970M?

EDIT: The recommended requirements are a GeForce 260 1GB or Radeon HD 4850 1GB, so it sounds very strange that it isn't performing better than that. Did you update to the latest Catalyst drivers from AMD?

Also, I'd assume you are dual booting into Windows ( does the witcher have a Mac version...?) and so 2GB of RAM is generally the lowest you should really go with Win 7. 4GB would probably help you a lot.

His sig rig lists 8GB of RAM so that shouldn't be a problem.

You won't go very far in terms of overclocking, the GPU is probably already pretty hot at the stock clock. It is a mobile GPU so it's not meant for crazy overclocking.
