Amd Phenom II x4 920 OC Help - Page 2

Due to the unheatsinked, uncooled (due to D14) 3+1 power phase/VRM and the 125W stock TDP processor, I would avoid overclocking on this board
Doing so would be at your own risk and very risky on an improper motherboard.... the responsiblity comes down to you in case of any potential failure or catastrophe involving VRMs, and they can and will happen

u think it will fry? the temperatures are at 35c-42c loaded

the thing is - you are placing a 125w cpu in a motherboard that cannot provide much power to the cpu. On top of this, you are thinking of increasing the voltages. your motherboard is cheap, and thus will not be abel to handle the extra power.

we all know the noctua dh-14 is one of the best coolers out atm, and you should be getting very nice cpu temps. But this does not stop the vrm problem on the motherboard

edit: found out that the platinum and CF are two different boards

what motherboard should i buy for amd phenom II x6 T1100 3.3ghz with 32gb ddr3 1600 ram and 6-20 sata 3 ports that i could overclock my t1100 with? oh and at least crossfire compatible i would put it in nexus edge and the motherboard should be supported with noctua nhs-d14 cpu cooler

I would wait for bulldozer. If you must, pick up a cheap 1090T for around $130 now. I would suggest the Asus Crosshair Formula IV ~ you can find some great deals on the forums.

xd knows what he's talking about, your a fool if you don't take hes advice tbh.

I've just rebuilt my own system from that board, its a good solid average-useage board, but it is not a good overclocker...at all, personally if i were you id be happy to get that cpu to 3GHz 24/7 stable. I had my old phenom 9750 water cooled and couldnt get it stable past 2.6 on that board, GL though.

I got mine up to 3.71 and it's one of the highest I've seen for this cpu. No idea how I got so lucky cause I'm by far not a pro at OC'ng.

This was my second 920. The first one would max out around 3.6 so I ran it at 3.5 to ensure stability. After about a year it died on me so I sent it back and the replacement clocks much better. It has ran 3.8 (full 1Ghz OC biggrin.gif ) but I never run it at the max, which is why I bumped it down to 3.71. The newer 920 also runs cooler, under gaming load my temps are in the mid to upper 40's, the H50 really helped. Prior to the H50 I could only do 3.6 and temps were in the low 50's.
