Um...S3 Sleep? PLL Overvoltage?

Thread Starter
Why is it working?

Just resumed from sleep about 10 times (last time I waited 30 minutes), at 5300 mhz, HT disabled, 1.55v, LLC2...Yes PLL Overvoltage is enabled. (CPU won't boot higher than X49 with it disabled).

I thought it wasn't supposed to work, period?
And to make matters worse, it also resumed from sleep in Windows XP, too...

(if anyone wonders what I was doing, I was bored and decided to try to blow up my first higher voltage 2600k doing weird things...like trying to make windows load at X54 with HT enabled at super high vcores (no can do), 2 cores (yes can do), and trying to cause boot loops by resuming from S3...does my computer just hate me?

my own personal experience with PLL overvoltage on an asus p8p67 is that its very hit or miss

example...the other night it was enabled and i put the computer to sleep as normal about 320 in the morning i woke up to the sound of computer fans and the led's from my fan controller lighting up my room....then the following day the computer wouldnt sleep at all...i hit the sleep button it would restart the computer...if i hit the sleep button again it would actually shut down the computer then after a minute or two the computer would turn back on but my monitor wouldnt turn on

needless to say...i turned off PLL overvoltage because i put my computer in sleep ever night

Well after the 10 successful sleep+resumes at 5300 mhz in XP and windows 7, I rebooted BACK to XP, tried to S3, and it failed...immediate, MASSIVE boot loops...only managed to get out by pressing the reset button (which slowed down the boot loops), then holding down the power button, and powering it up again manually...reposted at 3.4 ghz, turned off, reposted again said overclock failed, turned off, turned on, said main bios corrupt, flashed the backup, turned off, turned back on and got into BIOS and said overclocking failed.

Needless to say I won't be doing THAT again.
At least I know it is *possible* for PLL overvoltage to work with S3 sleep...at least sometimes....

Not worth risking bricking my board...wouldve just been better off pressing the clear cmos button once I saw it failed to resume ....

From what I remember Asus boards had problem waking up from S3 sleep if qpi volt was above a certain point. But this is 67... If you go back to last stable setting/stock, with normal PLL voltage, does it wake up from sleep?

Yeah disable pll overvoltage and it works fine on my board.

Yes it worked fine after I disabled PLL (and went back to 4 ghz). But I'm at 5.3 ghz burning up the CPU again...

If I actually KNEW what made it work during the two boots where it did work at 5.3 ghz, I could contact Intel/gigabyte or something and someone could make a microcode that would make it always work...but I think it's just random...although before It started working, I had just gone from 5.3 ghz HT On 1.55v LLC2 (refused to boot XP) to HT off (got in and gaming in XP; haven't tried BC2 or Black ops yet), then that's when I started trying...S3 worked, resumed, S3 worked again, resumed, booted to W7, S3 worked, resumed, S3 worked again, again...then I did a long 30 minute S3, resumed perfectly...rebooted back to XP...suspend...boot loop city...

Was so bad that my Xfire login info was deleted when I finally managed to get back into windows, after the bios recovery thing, and my speakers were set on 2 channel, with horrible EAX echo effects.... :/
