I need input on how to run my setup!

post #1 of 2
Thread Starter
OK so here's the deal. I am running two operating systems ATM. Win7 for gaming and Unix for everyday usage. I currently have 4 hard drives: 1x 120GB SSD, 1x 1TB SpinPoint F3, 2x WD Caviar Black 640GB. I have Unix on the 120GB SSD, my files on the 1TB, and a RAID1 array for the 2x 640GB for backup. However, I do not have a disk to install Windows 7 yet (I want to install Win7 on a 1TB drive that has good performance since I will be using it for gaming ONLY).

Then I found someone selling these drives:

Quote:
Western Digital Green WD20EARS 2TB Hard Drive -----> $55
Manufacture Date: July 2010 (2710 hours of use)
SMART Status: No errors
SPECS

Western Digital Green WD15EARS 1.5TB Hard Drive (re-certified from WD RMA) -----> $45
Manufacture Date: January 2010 (2962 hours of use)
SMART Status: No errors
SPECS

Western Digital Green WD10EADS 1TB Hard Drive -----> $35
Manufacture Date: July 2009 (7076 hours of use)
SMART Status: No errors
SPECS

Western Digital Green WD10EACS 1TB Hard Drive -----> $35
Manufacture Date: July 2009 (6608 hours of use)
SMART Status: UltraDMA CRC Error Count of 3 due to a bad SATA cable. This does not impact the drive at all.
SPECS
He also offered my $60 for 2x 1TB, $110 for 2x 1TB and the 2TB, and lastly $135 for everything. Is it worth it? Or a better question is: what setup do you guy think I should be running? From those hard drives I can buy above to the ones I have what do you guys think is the best setup I should run (keeping in mine I want data redundancy for my storage drives and cost to the lowest).

Sorry for the wall(s) of text. I just need an external perspective on this. I have the money to buy the drives, but I don't want to be splurging wastefully.

Eh. How much warranty is left on those drives? That's what I would be worried about.
