i7 950 OC | 1.46Vcore too much?

Thread Starter
Hello mates, I can run 4.6Ghz on 1.44v which is a tad high but I'm only keeping this chip to Ivy Bridge. I tested 4.7Ghz and prime crashed with a BSOD 101 (increase vcore) I just backed up to 4.6 but I'd like 4.7 , I'm guessing it would need something like 1.46-8vcore? My temps we're 77c on the hottest core, is it safe to raise the vcore?

If he can keep temps under TJMAX, then it's fine.. Under 80C is best.

1.46 volts isn't that much.... it's not gonna kill the chip in a hurry.

77C @ 4.6 HT ON? on AIR is impressive, and I've never heard of anyone doing that.

I can't go past 4.2 1.248v without hitting the 80's.

I agree, so long as he doesn't go past 80C will be fine, but I really want to know if this is with a Noctua U12P or if it's under water.

Absolute maximum for the i7-900 series is
vcore - 1.55
vtt - 1.35
QPI - 1.35

So long as your under those voltages it should be safe from what it says in the datasheets

I wouldn't hesitate to run 1.46v through that chip. My personal rule would be 1.45v max, but to get to a certain OC with a tink more volts won't hurt anything.

Nice OC btw
