Sennheiser HD555 or Audio Technia AD700?

Thread Starter
Hey - I'm shopping around for a new headset for mostly gaming, although I like to listen to a lot of music too. I'm an Rpg'r - can't stand FPS. I LOVE bass - I guess I'm what you guys call a basshead?

I was reading the gaming headset thread here on OCN and these two headsets stood out the most to me. I should mention that next to audio quality is comfort - I love wearing a headset for hours and forget I have it on. My current Razer Carcharias is very comfy but meh - crap product is crap.

At first I was leaning towards the AD700's I kind of like the look of them - but I saw some pictures and they are really big? I'm a pretty small person so yeah.. - I'd like them to stay on my head. Now, looking more at the HD555's I'm starting the like the simple design of them - yet I'm concerned they won't provide me with my craving for moar bass - due to the reviews in said thread.

But anyway - which would you guys suggest for gaming, hip-hop, classic rock, dubstep, insert other electronic music use.

Edit** I have decided to go with the A700 as I believe they will fit my needs best for the price - thanks guys.

-Ad700 literally have no bass. you're going to want to avoid.

-HD555's are okay for all around headphones, but I wouldn't suggest them if you label yourself a basshead and like dubstep.

Audio Technica M50's or Shure SRH840s seem more up your ally for an all around headphone.

Yeah, AD700's basically have no bass. One of the good things about them is that they have a big soundstage, so 3D positioning is really good with them, but this probably won't matter to you since you don't play FPS's. You should stay away from them since they don't fit your needs.

I have HD555 but they also have no bass, probably because they are open headphones.

Get some closed headphones imo

M50 is all around? I'd rather use the apple earbuds for stuff like gaming.

As people mentioned, neither fulfill your requirements. Except for comfort, which is something the AD700 excels at. If you have a small head use a rubber band on the wings.

With my Musiland 02 US + Samson MDR8 mixer, I can hear half way across the map just fine.

Of course, they're not the best, but they're pretty fine for gaming usage. He isn't playing FPS.. soo..

Based on your music tastes and your liking of bass I don't think you can go wrong with the M50.

Electronic music? Ultrasone. Ultrasones are highly regarded as some of the best electronica headphones that you can get for the money.

i agree. the other option would be to try out the DT990's, as they are open and apparently have plenty of bass. i'm blindly recommending these since i've never actually listened to them, so take the recommendation for what it's worth.
