Ocz Agility 3

Thread Starter
So i am finally in the market for an SSD, However i just saw the Agility 3 for 100 pounds (Same price as the c30064gb, vertex 2e and crucial m4)

http://www.ocztechnology.com/ocz-agi...i-2-5-ssd.html

Max Read: up to 525MB/s
Max Write: up to 475MB/s
Random Write 4KB (Aligned): 50,000 IOPS

I haven't seen many people talk about it, The specs look amazing - is a generally recommended drive or just another 'mainstream' one to stay away from?
thanks!

It is basically the same SSD as the Vertex 3 from the controller standpoint, but capped to 20000 IOPS. It's not 50k IOPS, it's probably an error with the specs listed on that site.

In principle the idea with Agility 3 (and Solid 3) is that they're based on lower grade Flash than Vertex 3. How much lower grade it's too early to tell, but they seem to have good warranty so they may be a good deal if you're ok with the 20k IOPS (you'd likely never notice more than 5k IOPS on a desktop anyway). I would pick a Vertex 2 over this Agility 3 only if you can find the model based on the "older" 34nm flash as it's faster and more long-lasting then 25nm-based V2.

Sorry to bump, but how's that Agility 3 working out for you ?
I'm planning to buy one, and I've heard loads of issues with them and a lot of DOA ones.

While some stores are saying that only 1% of their customers seem to have complained about it.

I have been running mine for over a week with no issues so far, semms like solid drive,

The only thing i would question is if it really lives up to its 500mb/s speed as advertised,
Some people suggest checking out the Crucial c300 or M4
but i like ocz and the agility is fine! - i don't know why you would need any more speed biggrin.gif

Great !

I'll go for the Agility 3 presumably. I have the M4 in my scope but there should be some very common freezing issues. At least according to Newegg. Perhaps some firmware will fix it soon.

The C300 seems like the most reliable and a great device, but then again ... The Agility 3 has 5 times the maximum write speeds.

Choices, choices ... Anyway, I appreciate your input, thanks !
