unlocking all core on stock cooler

Thread Starter
as the title says i have unlocked all cores on the stock cooler is this ok or not? as many people have said the problem i have is i cant check temps when all ocres are unlocked as all temp software shows 0 under all cores...
if i lock them and prime95 for 8-9hrs on a duel core my temps never go over 45.... so what we think am i ok unlocking all cores on stock cooler?
btw its a phenom II x2 560 3.3ghz

Wow you never went over 45C with the stock cooler? AMD must be stepping up on the fan/heatsinks they ship out with their CPUs.

I think you should be safe, but just in case, try using HWMonitor (http://www.cpuid.com/softwares/hwmonitor.html). I've read that looking at TEMP1 will give you the most accurate temperature readings.

yeah never over but that was when it was locked back to 2 cores i cant seem to get a reasonable reading when unlocked to 4 cores i ran prime with 4 cores unlocked for 9hrs 55mins and couldnt check what temps i was hitting but my system never shut down im worried i may have hit high temps and done damage somehow so i locked it to 2 cores and ran prime 95 again for 8-9hrs and i think the max it hit was 45 or there abouts....just to add when its locked to duel core it idles at 22 dont know whether that makes any difference.

i ran my sig rig unlocked x4 (not overclocked) with the stock cooler (same cooler as x2 560 iirc)
ran pretty warm tho, close to 60c under load
after i got the 212+ i overclocked it

make sure you set bios to turn the fan speed up all the way at 50c

with the cores locked up, compare the tmpin0 (socket) with the core temps

the socket is normally slightly cooler than the cores
