Twin Frozr III CF

Thread Starter
I am about to pull the trigger on the TWFIII because of its superior overclockability to all other 6950´s brands and great cooling performance.

But I am still a little torn about my decision because of the cooling efficiency in Crossfire.

I have read several reviews and tests which all say that the cooling design of the Twin Frozr III is set to exhaust all the hot air into the case not the exterior.
Which means the card has a tendency to suck up all the hot air it is originally exhausting.

Now with a single TWFIII this affect would be annoying but in CF it would be lethal in my oppinion because the top card would just eat all the exhaust air of the lower one.

I have the Gigabyte OC with 4x PCIE which means I can position them at the lowest and highest point of my board.
But the exhaust air of the lower card would still hit the upper one before it can be exhausted by the rear exhaust fan.

I wanna get both cards over 1 GHZ with some voltage bumps and unlocking and I need to know if the cooling will be enough to keep load temps below 70C!
So my question to you guys is to add your oppinons, experiences and reviews that prove or disprove the TWFIII´s cooling efficiency as single and most importantly CF setup.

Thx

I have my hd 6950s cooled with zalman vf3000a's. With the coolers installed they take up three slots. This means that I have about 1/2 inch between my upper and lower cards.

My case is a silverstone tj09 that has a mid-case fan for intake to push cool air towards the cards.

I also was pretty nervous of changing out the stock vapor chamber coolers that exhaust the hot air out of the case, but I will tell you...my fears were unfounded.

My bottom card never gets above 62C underload and the top card about 70C. I can only imagine how well the TWFIIIs will cool, especially with more room between the cards.

You've made a great choice!!!

The only problem with the TWFIII according to reviews at least is that they exhaust to much hot air into the case.....that could result in very bad temps especially in CF setups.

Also in my Little Devil V8 there aren´t too many intake points only a lot of exhaust options...so the hot air could be exhausted but fresh one could not be induced to much.

Also the hot rising air form the first card could heaviliy impede with the upper card before hitting the cases´ exhaust fan.

I wanna seriously overclock this CF Twin Forzr III setup with voltage mods etc...and if what people say about the card is true and the cooling concept isn´t really tbat good because they exhaust all the hot air into the case they won´t be a good choice actually

just make sure that u have fans pushing cool air on the cards and try to put a fan or 2 at the end of the cards.

Is there anyway to modify your case fan setup to allow for more intake fans? On my case I currently have the mid-case as an intake, my top two fans as intake and my rear fan as an exhaust.

Like I said I was really concerned about the hot air blowing around the case but it really wasn't an issue.

My top card runs cooler (by a little) than it did with the stock cooler at 65-70% Fan (LOUD).

I did try to do some research about the TWFIII in crossfire and the only thread that came up with the [H] Forum thread were a dude had bad temps in his small case with the dual TWFIIIs.

I wouldn't let that one particular situation turn you away from that awesome setup.

I have a 140mm rear exhaust option, 4x120mm options in the top and 1x140mm intake from the front for the harddrives.
I could either use the 4x120mm top fans as intake or exhaust, I am not sure.

But there isn´t really an option to blow air directly on the cards only from th fan options.
If possible look at some pictures of the Little Devil V8 ^^ then you will see what I mean

I am not sure but I think I would configure the top 4x120mm as intake , the rear 140 mm as exhaust and the front 140mm also as intake....what do you think?

Many reviews say that the cooling idea behind the TWFIII is good but the exhaust conept is stupid.
I hope they wlil run cool with my fan configuration..maybe you can give me some tips

And some reassurance that the won´t get hot and highly overclockable^^

So you're back to the twin frozr iii. You just need to do it. Pull the trigger. Get it done. You'll feel some instant anxiety after you submit your order, but it will resolve once you're up and running. What's the worst that can happen? You either rma or sell here. That'll cost you maybe $100, but then you'll know. You know you want this. You've posted over and over about it and even tried to convince others to buy these cards. It's time to have some faith in your decision. DO IT!!! When all this is over, you'll look back and realize you made too big a deal over this, whether you did it right or wrong. Check out rhyme and his posts about case cooling. He's the master. Pm him.

Sorry, stupid auto correct got me. ehume is the name. He'll tell you to use no exhaust fan at all. Cut out the rear fan grill and let the fans in the front push the air through. Also, block off the opening at the top rear of the case. Use two 120s in the front part of the top. Also, you can buy a loan Li bay device that fits in 3 5.25 slots that will hold another 120. Of course his advice may be different since you're water cooling the cpu. Search for his posts in the air cooling section. Good luck.

Ok that is one thing but I still would like some of the members to share their oppinions and experiences of the TWFIII cooling efficiency especially in CF.

I mean is it really true the cooler only exhausts in to the case?
And that it sucks up its own exhaust air therefore resulting in worse cooling than the reference design?
MSI clearly states 11C improvment to the ref cooler...maybe that doesn´t include continues use?lol
