[BSOD] STOP : c0000b8a Unknown Hard Error

Thread Starter
Team,

I got this error the other day and it seems to be a recurrent one. At least once a day.

The error I got is:

Code:
STOP : c0000b8a Unknown Hard Error
Unknown Hard Error

Steps to diagnose:

1. Google the error and ended up with pretty much vague information.
2. Memtest the memory and got 8 errors in less than 30 mins of the program running. The memory is under RMA at the moment.
3. Swap the memory for a known good one. Still got the error after 1-2 hours!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hardware:

1. Mobo: Zotac Geforce 9300-ITX - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16813500022
2. GFX Card: Internal with 512 MB shared memory.
3. CPU: C2D 2.53 Ghz @ stock clock. So... no OC.

I am suspecting that it is either a failed mobo or a failed PS as I do not have any other component with the exception of the CPU and Memory.

What other test(s) can I do to determine where the culprit resides? Can this be a software issue? My machine is an HTPC and have not touched a thing with the exception of the Antivirus Updates.

Thanks in advanced!

Have you tried running a hard drive S.M.A.R.T. Test?

You might want to check the drivers. Visit the mobo's driver website and make sure the windows device manager doesnt have any unknown devices. I've had a computer BSOD because of bad drivers.

Sorry for the double post, but here's Microsoft's website support. Is your optical drive on the same IED cable as your hard drive? (assuming the computer is that old. )

huuum! I have not done a S.M.A.R.T. Test on the drives.

Any good software to perform this test? I found HDDScan and HD Tune by doing a little search.

For the SMART test, I use HD tune pro. Run one and get us a pic of the results. Did you check the drivers yet?

I know bad memory can cause OS corruption over time. Have you tried a chkdsk and/or a reinstall?

Momocog is right you should do a SMART test using HD Tune Pro. Also you may have a broken memory controller if your smart test passes. Just keep us informed as to what's going on.
