No, having the HT link that high is not going to hurt anything, but it has been shown to cause instability when it is to far over 2Ghz. If it runs and is stable, then you are good, but as you increase upwards toward 4Ghz, if you start to become unstable that should be the first thing you lower!

Also, if you run the ram @ 1333ish, you should be able to tighten up the RAM to 8-8-8 or so, but do that last, after you get the CPU stable the way you want it!

What kind of temps are you getting when @ full prime load? Hopefully you are around 52-55 or lower

hi mate, i got it running on prime right now, its at 47c

finally sorted it,
Set the HT link to 1400MHz which gave me 1904Mhz.

So at the moment:
CPU
FSB 272
Vcore 1.4
CPU-NB 2448MHz
HT Link 1904MHz

RAM
DRAM 725.2MHz
FSB: 3:8
9
9
9
24
41
T1

I have two more queries,

The CPU-NB voltage..

closest thing i found was "VDDNB Over voltage" its under CPU over voltage which i guess/hope is the vcore. i have left it on auto untill i checked exactly what is it.

I also have another option called CPU VDDA Voltage, any ideas what that is?

With the ram, is 725Mhz any good for 1600mhz ram overclocked?

and bar the frequency changing, two other things changed..

FSB 3:8 (was 1:4 i think)
command rate 1T (it was 2T, i know 1T is better)

Cheers John

Very nice man!

CPU/NB voltage will be fine on auto... prolly around 1.3ish I would imagine

You could bump that NB speed up to 2720Mhz and prolly wouldn't cause any problems

HT link will be OK @ 1904, but really if it was stable @ 2400 then thats cool, just make sure that the NB speed is FASTER than the HT or you will have problems

Ram @ "725Mhz" Means that it is running @ 1450Mhz, which is fine. Not really gonna be a huge noticeable difference. But like I said earlier, once your OC is stable, you can start to tighten up that ram. Since it is rated @ 9-9-9-24 @ 1600Mhz, I would imagine @ 1450Mhz you should be able to get down to 8-8-8-24 and maybe even 7-7-7 or 7-8-7. Just gonna take some trial and error.

Your temps look really good to so no worries there.

Once you are happy with the stability, you might as well bump that FSB up in 5Mhz increments and see how high you can go . Since you have your divders already set, (NB,HT,RAM), the only thing you will really need to increase would be the voltage

Try for FSB 280 and see what happens... if stable, try 285 If not, call it a day @ 272 and work on the RAM!

Also, those other voltages you need not mess with. But if you are curious, the manual will explain them

ran it twice for 30 odd mins, core 2 had a error ran it again and core 6 had a error, so i gues its not stable.

hasent crashed or anything like that, when the errors ocurred the core in which it happend on, stops loading but the rest keep going, well according to task manager. that normal? i got visions ive fried a core or 2 lol.

Cheers John

Needs more juice. Try 1.45V on the cpu. You could prolly back it off a bit, but might as well jack it up and see if that helps. I only recommend because your temps were nice and low @ 1.4V.

If it helps @1.45, try to bump down a bit.

Did you get a reading on the CPU/NB volts?

You should install PC Probe II from ASUS website, that will give you voltages and tmemp right on the desktop

OP Have you been giving the NB extra voltage since you have a HT ref/FSB 272Mhz?
Thread Starter
Took the NB off auto and increased it to 1.25

ran 2 hours no errors, and its abit cooler?

i noticed the voltage never goes above 1.36 even at full load, should i lover the voltage from 1.4?

LoL no problem man.

If its pulling no more than 1.36, You could try lowering it. Might as well try to go higher just for fun and see what you can get. If it's only going 1.36 @ 3.8 then i would think for sure you could go for 4Ghz

The main idea is to find the limits of your hardware, then ease it back a little (speed, voltage, etc) until it's running cool and you get the speed you want.

So once you know it stable at a certain speed and voltage, you can always go up or down from there
