I have the build as you pretty much. I have noticed that people do not have 990x on these forums and are geared towards 2600k's. But there is still a lot of help here. The day I was going to start oc'ing my mobo went out so its being rma'd.

I was going to see how high I can get bclck so I can get a range with multiplier as low as it can go. What is your goal? The 990x is very customizable and so many different set ups to achive you final goal (since eberything i unlocked). There are some poeple on xtremesystems.org ( i think thats the sight) oc'ing the 990x and you can see where they are starting and using to oc. I hope you have fun with this great chip, and if anyone gives you crap for buying it they are just jelous cause they want one.

Keep me updated with your progress cause I will be with you in learning oc'ing this amazing chip and mobo.

Sorry if spelling is bad sent using mu 4G Epic Android

cheers for the site i will have a look around my goal is to get the most out of the chip as i can

too bad if people are jealous anyone can get one if they want it

i was lookin at he 2600k but thought it is like buying a motor get a 4cyl and tune the **** out of it or get a v8 that gets the same power with less tuning if that makes any sense

will let ya know how i go when i figure all the **** out that i need to though may take some time

The way I look at the 2600k is like oc'ing for dummies. You raise the multiplier and voltages and then test and bam you have a oc. That might be good for some people but with the 990x you can mess with bclck, multplier, and everything else. You can fine tune the chip to your memory and make it run great. Plus its a hexacore so its kind of future proof.

I really didnt want to jump on the 2600k bandwagon. Also the Assassin is amazing with the Creative sound chip, the Bigfoot network controller. With my setup I am always the first to load into Crysis 2.

Also you may want to look into h2o so you can push you chip even farther. I have h2o on mine and living in Vegas with prime95 and 4.3ghz with Easy Tune6 I was getting about 60 c and thats with summer starting to come into full swing.

also love bleach it is best show on earth as i said i am pretty new to this as the last chip i overclocked was an amd k6 (think that was the model) i just want something that runs all day every day. I work away so i will run it at stock while im away just downloading and stuff but when im home i would like to boost it up a little more to see what the difference is in real time usage not the benchmark s$#t is. I'm not too keen to go water cooling just yet would like to suss out the system i got atm and the max i can get out of it before i take that path spent enough dough on it already want to get me moneys worth

well i live in aus and it is winter atm so for me it is startin to get cold (though wat i call cold is probably wat you call warm 13C is cold im more a 30C man )

I was at 3.86 and 1.28v on stock cooler and temps were comfortable. 990 might be able to get there with lower voltage and temps.

To get to 4.0 I needed +75mv (total 1.28v vtt) on the imc 1.30 vcore. Which results in a max of 56c with an h70 at 20c ambient. My 980 is not thbest oc'er and your 990 should only get better results.

Yeah I loved Bleach. I have read of a lot of people actually getting 5.0ghz on air 24/7, which I think is pretty cool. This chip will run cooler than a 970 at the same voltages. I really think that this is the ultimate chip, and I was willing to spend the money to get it. Keep in touch so if you have any questions I can help answere and vise versa. Plus its good to know someone else with a 990x.

What kind of performace you getting with your 580? I was running Evga gtx 570 HD sli but found that they dont make a waterblock for them. So I returned and got Evga gtx 580 3gb vesion in sli, but havent used them since the mobo is being rma'd.

I'd really suggest you get an after-market air cooler, even just a cheap one. Raising the BCLK will overclock the other components aswell (RAM, QPI, uncore) but increasing the CPU multiplier (it's unlocked for you) only overclocks the CPU. Higher BCLK requires higher QPI voltage. When I overclocked the first thing I did was raising the BCLK as high as I needed (190-200) by dropping all the other multipliers and finding a stable QPI voltage for that, then doing the other speeds one by one. (RAM and CPU, QPI for example can just be set to the lowest because of the insane bandwidth they have).

Also I read someone saying 990x was so future proof, hexa core isn't automatically future proof I think that yes it's a good chip and can be used for some years (yes I'm a bit jealous as you said of course but still :>) but the 2600k is a new architecture but falls behind in heavy multi-threaded applications, so it can be worth it in some cases. In all? Nope. I'm not saying it's a bad purchase though, I wish I had a chip like this

just picked up the system bout 12 hours ago so still seeing how it runs i have used the standard oc using easytune6 it is running @ 4324mhz atm and 40C after running homefront @ 1080P max setting the fps for that with single 580 is over 60fps according to the game. runs fine dont see any shuttering though i just started the game. not much of a gamer though. usualy play games on xbox. all the settings on easy tune are

clocks
cpu 4235mhz
bclk 160.15mhz
qpi link 2883mhz
multiplier 27.00

voltage 1.264V
