Does that "disc incapable" show up in a pop-up? Cause can't play any games today, but last night I could? It just spins up, and says then stops, saying "Insert disc." Any help? I have the Japser model, 60GB.

I'm pretty sure he was gearing that comment towards Xbox 'exclusives'.

In my personal opinion, I don't understand why PC gamers go for the Xbox 360. Live and online play may be better, but there are still a lot of PC gamers that play games for the story line.

I had an Xbox 360 for around 2 years, and didn't get much use out of it for the fact that the only games I had any remote interest in were Gears of War and Halo. I played Red Dead Redemption as well, but that was it, simply because almost every other game that was highly popular among the Xbox, was also available for PC. Not only that, but PC games, if bought at the right time can be had for a fraction of the cost of even a used console game.

Therefore, I traded in my Xbox 360, used the $100 off GameStop coupon, and got a PS3 for $88. For me, I have more interest in the PS3 because of its exclusives. They have exclusives that you will most likely never see on PS3 (i.e. MGS4, inFamous 1, 2, Uncharted, GT5).

Of course this is all my opinion, but to any gamer that has interest in games for their story line, I don't how they would prefer a Xbox 360 over a PS3. Now I will definitely admit that I like the Xbox 360 controller more than the PS3 controller, but that's about it.

So has this update been rolled out already or is it going to take a few days? I too have one of the older models. My friend and I bought them for cheap when Circuit City was going out of business and since then he's been through like 5 of the damn things and ended up just buying a new one(the one with wifi built-in). I'm still on my original one but I only play 1 game on it while he's a hardcore xbox live guy. Would be cool to get a free update from Microsoft 'cause I know these things are ticking time bombs and I'm not going to buy a new one if mine RROD's.

No, it's a firmware update being applied to the DVD drive along with a dashboard update to the console itself. Unless you're a BETA tester you do not have this.

Xbox 360s original warranty was year, the new consoles have a one year. The PS3 has only been hacked once.

Personal question, while at work if you don't know something, do you just make information up? It doesn't work so well on forums where there are numerous people who are more knowledgeable than you.

Are you serious?

Let me turn on my Xbox360 for you and see if it asks me to update and I'll post back in a minute for you incompetent people.

EDIT: It didn't ask me to update so I'm going to take a WILD GUESS here and say, no the update hasn't happened yet.

The problem is caused by the thermal expansion/shrinkage of the cheap solder they used, and that that expansion/shrinkage is determined by the temperature differential, not the actual temperature. Your 360's GPU at the menu probably sits at 40-50C, and in games probably does 50-85C. Ambients are usually 23-30C. Chopping out that bottom 10-20C of the thermal range can really reduce the amount of expansion cycles the solder goes through and how dramatic those cycles are, and can dramatically increase the lifespan of your console.
Or you could wire your fans to 12v and replace the TIM and your box lives a long life like mine. Side effect is, you go deaf

Ok so what of us that has opened our machines for whatever reason? Guess we don't update then No I didn't mod the FW only 12v mod and new TIM. Im not updating either Xbox until I know exactly which models are affected
