HDMI audio over DVI - Page 2

It can, DVI with some extra pins can carry audio as if HDMI. It does that on my Biostar 785G
I guess it depends on the implementation.

^This. AMD/ATI use unused pins on the DVI connector to pass audio through the video card via a proprietary adapter. I think it started with the HD3000 series.

I am using a DVI to HDMI adapter and getting sound through it.

I have used it with ATI and nVidia cards and these aren't any "official" ones that came with a card. Both manufacturers have extra drivers you need to download in order for it to work as well as you must have an adapter that supports it.

Your opinion on which board is better could be the source of the problem. If you didn't search and check to see if the Gigabyte board supports this then you could be wasting all of our time. Instead of arguing with people telling you it can't be done, why not post the motherboards model number or maybe do some research?

Then you could post some useful information for those trying to help and you may actually get an answer!

I did do research on it

this board carries sound over HDMI, it is 760g and has a VGA and DVI port onboard

http://www.biostar.com.tw/app/en/mb/content.php?S_ID=479

this board is 760g, has a VGA and DVI ports yet doesn't carry sound from my tests

http://www.gigabyte.com/products/product-page.aspx?pid=3583

I assumed the 760g chipset supports audio over DVI.

No HDMI driver listed on Gigabyte's page would make me think it doesn't support audio through DVI. See how the HDMI driver listed on the Biostar page.

It would be worthwhile to try that.

The ones I'm using aren't missing any pins.

Perhaps try a driver from a similar motherboard like the one you listed if it doesn't work right away.
