You know some ppl have exact same card, but their room ambient is much cooler. They must have air conditioning turned on 24/7
5870 is considered a cool card, but I also had max load idle and 80c +

560's in SLI would scale a lot better than 5870's in crossfire (the 5000 generation in general), pretty sure they would win by a landslide.

At idle its on automatic so the down-clocking of the card is more responsible for idle temps. When I OC I set the speed to around 50% to keep it from hitting 70C. To be honest right now cuz its hot and the AC is constantly pumping I have good ambient temps. In winter with heat running sometimes ambient temps go up a bit, but I still never get above 70C at 50% fan speed.

Also if your card is a ref card it really doesnt matter who the manufacturer is, one is no better then the other, unless you end up RMA'ing or something.

Congrats, enjoy them.
I was going to add, I don't know if it's already been said, but it's pretty well established that GTX 560 Ti's scale a lot better with tessellation.
I'm sure you won't regret theme!

Well here's my take on this. Two GTX 560's = $400. Another AMD 5870 1GB = $380.

Drivers have improved with the 5870 cards and are pretty much mature by now, if anything crossfire improved, so don't let that discourage you btw.

The GTX 560 is a tad less performance than an AMD 5870. In most benchmark reviews I've seen it's within 5-6 FPS of each other. Personally I'd get the GTX 560's myself.

If you can sell your AMD 5870 then it's an obvious choice. Ball is in your court since they are so closely matched. Either way you'll be set for the next two years in my opinion.

Edited: I just saw you went GTX 560ti. Nice, you wont' regret it.

Now come over to the NVIDIA GeForce GTX 500 Series Owners Club and join up. Great place for info and any questions you might have.

That link says the 5870 is faster in 3Dmark, Crysis, and DMC4 lol (i.e. everything on that page)

Perhaps you were confusing the GTX560 Ti vs 5870 results with the GTX560 Ti @ 1ghz vs 6970 results?
