New CPU and Graphics card, also would a new mobo be needed?

Thread Starter
looking for a new "bang for buck" set up, what would you suggest? dont want top of the range, just something that can run recent games on mod settings with.
Thanks.

As of this very moment, the 2500k is the best bang for the buck. But AMD is going to release their new lineup of CPU soon, its better to wait just a bit more to see what they have to offer.

As in terms of GPU, it really depends on your budget, but it usually comes down to GTX560Ti vs HD6950.

maybe wait 3 weeks for the AMD Bulldozer to see what the prices are? you might be able to score a mid-range cpu and mobo cheap.

as for gpu, reference 6950 flashed to 6970 shaders seems like a great buy. if you look for them, you can score one for $250 or so.

AMD Phenom II x4 955 3.2ghz ($120 or $110 with promotional code BY 5/20)

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...-808-_-Product

And either a 6850 or 6870

6870 - $190 - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16814102913

6850 - $170 - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16814102908

Combined total of $310 ($300 with promotional) [CPU + 6870]

or $290 ($280 with cpu promotional) [CPU + 6850]

Best bang for buck would be the option with a 6870

You could also cost that cost and go with a 6770 maybe, but you get like 1/2 the performance of a 6850

If you're willing to wait a bit and will go for a higher price cpu and may need a new motherboard, wait for the bulldozer series to come out and that will give more options + lower the phenom prices.
