Gaming rig for my brother

Okay, So i been trying to get him a gaming rig for ever. And i promise him that i will get him one for July. So, I have thought about going with a Sandy Bridge setup. Now this is what i have in mind.

Intel Core i3-2100 Sandy Bridge 3.1GHz LGA 1155
GIGABYTE GA-Z68MA-D2H-B3 LGA 1155
CORSAIR XMS3 4GB CMX4GX3M2A1600C8
Western Digital Caviar Black WD640
COOLER MASTER HAF 912
CORSAIR Builder Series CX500 V2 500W
Grand Total: $493.17

any thoughts on the setup anything i should replace to make the price lower/better

P.S he don't need a video card he only has a 14 or 15 inch crt

Gaming Rig with no graphics card? lol. Looks decent. I think anything under $500 is good already. For the value, i think its really good. Good luck with the build.

Wasn't plan on overclocking maybe i should go with amd so i don't have to buy a video card and or give him my old video card that's dieing

i just see some test that a HD 4250 is a lot faster/better then the Intel HD 2000

So maybe i should get him a Phenom and or Athlon

Check the benchmarks again, this time pay attention to the FPS and graphics settings of each game being benchmarked. You want constant 40 fps minimum on a decent graphics level. (1280x1024, medium settings, no AA and AF is a good start) While the amd onboard video might be faster, I don't think either are suited for gaming.

I agree with the others, drop the Z68 and get one of the lower end ones (H61, H67, P67) and use the money saved to buy the video card, you don't need a high-end one, get a 5670 or 5770. Unless there is a feature that can only be found on Z68 motherboards that you really want.

If you really want the Z68, double check the form factor, all Z68 I saw over here are E-ATX. The HAF 912 might not fit.

I had a friend who did not get a video card and he's currently enjoying my 5670.

Okay, im just going to go with amd

AMD Phenom II X2 555 Black Edition
G.SKILL Ripjaws Series 4GB
ASUS M4A88T-V EVO/USB3 AM3

The, hard drive the case and the psu is the same. $425.84

And for not buying a video card i think that a HD 4250 will suite him till i get him a new video card for his birthday and its before christmas

And im pretty sure the HD 4250 will do just find with steam games like the games that are Included in Valve Complete Pack but i could be wrong like ways
