Good rigs for new PC gamers?

SO I am slowlly... and I mean..... slooooooooooooowly merging all my friends to PC gaming..

I'm trying to think of what I should actually put in there. Before I go any further, these kids have no sense of computer internals, and they will be playing on really low resolutions such as 1280x1024, but I don't want them to upgrade monitors and not be able to utilize a higher resolution such as 1920x1080. Lastly, I am thinking it will need to produce atleast 35-40 FPS minimum. Also there obviously not maxing games out here...

Heres what I had in mind, and I have be on newegg for about 25 minutes...

CPU

GPU

ram

motherboard

PSU

What do you think? How will this fair a new PC gamer? Doesn't have to max every game, but in order to keep the "Wow this is sooo much better than xbox gaming" factor in, it would be nice.

I picked the 4670, because it served me well, while I had it, but really thats open for discussion as well. Strick 400$ budget btw.

Thanks, and I appreciate all comments/recommendations you may have.

P.S, I don't really know what games they are going to be playing, but here are a few if I had to guess, Just Cause 2 (yeah obv not maxxing that) Crysis 2 (just because they'd be able to..) Left for Dead 1&2, CSS, Deffinitly Battlefield 3 (obv at low res. low settings).. The new morrowind game, diablo3, and starcraft 2

So hopefully thats a little bit more help. ALSO, I realize I can take advantage of deal/combos, but not sure when there buying.. I kinda wonna get a baseline of what I am getting first.

Most games nowadays would rather use less cores with higher clock speeds - which is why the dual Phenom 555 BE was one of the best budget processors for a long time.

If you don't mind driving 20 miles to Boston, you can get an AMD processor and Motherboard bundle for significantly cheaper than Newegg. Check Microcenterfor details. Get the X2 560 or X4 965 bundle and you wont be sorry. Look up the mobos they're bundling with them on newegg and pick one you like.

Don't go cheap on memory. It's not worth it. Get a reliable brand, such as this
Ok on GPU and PSU.. although if you hunt you can get better deals on PSUs, but not a big deal.

Agreed, but you gotta realize, im trying to stay within a 400 dollar budget. Im think games like GTA will need a quad, and there will be NO overclocking on these computers. With that being said, do you still agree with your statement?

and yeah Microcenter is also an option if you guys want to pick stuff out from there.

Most games still don't utilize a quad. Clock speeds and L3 cache are king. Especially if they don't overclock at all, I'd take 555 over the Athlon any day.
Like I said, if they don't mind spending extra $30 bux, get the X4 965. Best bang for the buck.

I think you're fine with that budget unless I missed something?
X2 965 Combo $130
RAM $55
GPU $65
PSU $50
--------------------
$300+tax?

No overclocking, yet your on overclocking.net...

ADVICE
Don't go with cheapo PSU's or Video Cards, you will regret it, a $65 GPU will play most games on low settings MAX.

Agree on PSU, disagree on video cards. Cards are lower priced because they're older, but for what he's asking, they should be just fine. I use a very similar card to him and have been able to play most of the new games without any issues at all. Not at 1920, 4x AA, but at 1200 with AA off and high settings.
For example, newest Dragon Age 2 runs at ~100 fps, I've played Crysis at ~40 fps and Elder Scrolls games at medium settings without any issues.

If you read, guy, you'd know its not mine, and this is the only computer forum I go to.

And, a athlon dual core and a GT 420 can play crysis 2 on high at 1440x900 so I think a 4670 is better or else im getting a GT 420.
