[Xbit] Contemporary Graphics Cards in World of Warcraft: Cataclysm - Page 3

I'm pretty sure the people who say they have 200 FPS all the time don't raid.

When there are 25 people's spells going on, not to mention all the encounter effects and spells - the game will even slow down on most new systems.

I have all the details on ultra except shadows (since there is no difference in shadows from the 2nd lowest setting to the highest) and vertical sync on. I can drop to about 45 fps during intense fights (lots of effects and moving).

As for the graphics - it is a stylized game. If tomorrow all the human models were made realistic it would look awful.

As for people who think it's not updated or has terrible graphics and isn't good, you probably don't play the game.

You can say what you will about WoW, but its got a proven method of making tons of $$ for Blizzard.

That being said I did play through beta testing and around 5 years into the game. I have purchased all the expansions, adding my account backin so I could play through them. I was very pleased with the subtle changes in over all look of the game. Yes it does still have the cartoonish look but there are some very cool atmospheric effects and such that make it much more than it was when it launched.

If your wondering, no I don't still play it, Im having to much fun in BC2!

Anyone in this thread who thinks WoW utilizes more than 2 cores is sadly mistaken and has not done ANY research for themselves but rather taken other peoples word for it.

It's extremely clear that when you scale up cores WoW does not scale up past 2.

A CPU with 4 cores see 50% across all cores, a dual will see 100%, 6-cores would be 33.33%, 8 is going to be 25% across all cores. It's been proven on this forum time and time again and if you want, go check for yourself. Get a quad-core, then something with more and watch the usage per core drop at a set rate.

I've tested this on my old E8600, my current CPU, as well as an i7. The work being done on every core is a result of Windows equalizing the workload across all available logical CPU's.

WOW IS NOT CODED TO UTILIZE MORE THAN TWO LOGICAL CPU'S AT ONCE AT 100%.

On the other hand, WoW definately supports SLi.

One more reason for me to step down since all I do is gaming.
8 thread = waste (in my case)
Imma grab an i3 and decent GFX and I'll be more than happy.

Never played this game and never will. The graphics look like jelly and the textures are just terrible, even on ultra. Graphics overall look terrible on ultra.
Not to mention i can buy several high quality titles with the money needed to buy all WOW expansions and then that monthly subscription.
Maybe the gameplay is good, but then again its an MMO, anyone say grinding grinding grinding?

Rift was built using a 9 year old graphics engine...

They made one bad thing with the DX11 implementation though.

Half the game is DX9 and the other DX11 even when DX11 is turned on. The problem we have is that if you play at DX11 after a bit the game crashes the GPU, saying drivers not responding but recovered. This is because the GPU is stressed out too much switching between DX9 and DX11 thus crashing the card.

You can see loads of posts of forums regarding this, and even Nvidia has said its a problem with the way WoW is coded and they have to write drivers just for that.

I can't run DX11 on my GTX580 as after 2 hours it randomly crashes. The only difference is in water and some reflections as far as im aware of but the GPU switching API on the fly is causing problems!

P.S Ditto on Rift. The graphics on that game are not anything special either, infact go look at WAR Online. They are the same MMOs though dont need super high res graphics. It would make the world's unplayable. WoW looks good. I think it needs some high res character models
