What is your maximum budget?

What country are you in?

What will be the uses of this laptop?

Do you have brand loyalty or care which brands we select for you?

What screen size do you require?

What screen resolution do you require?

Are you looking to buy NEW or would refurbished/recertified/used be okay?

How long should the battery last? (Under optimal conditions, no movies/games/heavy internet)

What games would you like to play with your laptop? And on what settings?

What operating system do you need? (if any)

Is there a certain style of laptop you want? (aluminum, black, gaming, etc.)

How much hard drive space do you need?

Do you need any special hardware? (blue ray, webcam, specialty ports, etc.)

Is there anything else we need to know?

I am not really the one to answer this but I'll give it a shot.
At least I'll be bumping this thread.
Here are a couple of suggestions.
I do know dell ships to NZ.

Some good sites would be:

www.pbtech.co.nz
www.computerlounge.co.nz

Also try out pricespy, which allows you to search and compare different computer products, including various laptop computers.
www.pricespy.co.nz

Other larger chain stores include:
www.jbhifi.co.nz
www.noelleeming.co.nz
www.dse.co.nz
www.harveynorman.co.nz

The closest I've found that meet your needs would be this:

Having sandy bridge with dedicated graphics would probably cost at least an extra two hundred, though I find the Intel HD 3000 to be fairly decent in lower end games. Mine scores 3900 points in 3dmark06. To give you an idea my old nvidia 7600gt (mid range graphics card 4-5 years ago) got around 3600.
