[Build Log] Budget Sandy Bridge Gaming build

Thread Starter
This is my "Spend a little as i have too for a Sandy bridge build, but still be reliable, extremely stable, but blazing fast and play games well" Build

Here's the lineup as it stands now (List is subject to change as I find better deals etc. And feel free to suggest different parts, for Price/Performance ratio)

Asus P8P67
i5-2500k Sandy bridge Bought
G. Skill 4gb Ripjaws Bought
Sapphire 6870 Bought
Samsung F3 1TBBought
Corsair 600t SE WhiteBought
Corsair TX650 bought
Windows 7 Pro 64bit

Misc. Upgrades
Thinking about Corsairs closed loop water cooling
Upgrade fans to Xigmatek XLF series
Put fan in 5.25 area for extra intake
NZXT White LED strip
Gonna add a second F3, probably for RAID1

I'm sure other things will be added down the line. Should be buying case soon and mobo.

I built a machine very similar to that of yours, except when I was looking at GPUs I nearly got the 560 but ended up looking at 6950 then got a bit extra and got a 6970 (which is amazing)
The Samsung F3 is good, but I'm gonna buy a second one for a RAID0 array soon, slow boot time.
Get 8GB of the Corsair Vengeance, the price difference isn't much and you get Dual Channel then (get the 1600MHz, my 1866MHz isn't really worth the extra)
I dunno how big your case is but make sure the H60 fits in it first, they're difficult to fit. If I were you i'd get a good sized case and just get a big air cooler, very little difference between H70 and NH D14 with Gentle Typhoons, I hate my H70 already, its loud and was annoying to fit (didn't work at first!)
If you do decide on NH D14 though its a big cooler and doesn't fit over Corsair Vengeance heatspreaders so you'll need to get different RAM (XM3 maybe?)
Motherboard is the same as mine, its fine, but I think it may have something to do with my slow boot time, not sure yet, I would say to think about the Asus P67 one that everyone gets, but I wouldn't not recommend the UD4.

Hope that helps!

I prefer the wd black drive, and the 560ti as well. The 560 can usually reach good clocks and hit 570 speeds.

As far as a PSU you could consider getting the NZXT hale since the white PSU will go with your computer. They go on sale sometimes for really cheap and they are a nice PSU overall.

if u have extra i would get the UD7-B3 just cause we r on OCN ... also, you might want to check out some G.SKILL RAM... they are prity cheap for their speeds and still realy reliable... i got a 2x4GB 1600MHz kit for my friends build for like $50 or so from new egg... i too vote for the 560 and the F3... also, you might want to check out the RASA kits if you dont mind the maintenance of the loop

god, facepalm

why a ud7? what justifies the purchase of it? and dont give me the b/c we are OCN crap. Get that out of here. tired of hearing stupid reasoning like that

if you read op, it says budget. how is a ud7 going to fit into a budget SB build?

Rasa kit. Right. that doubles the price of his h60 or so. Why?

the only good thing i would agree on in your post is the 560 and F3. everything else is rubbish.

Also I see that you picked the 600t white version. If you want to go for something cheaper that's white, the nzxt phantom would be a good choice as well.

the reason for the UD7 is it is an extremely nice board, and it is nice to have top of the line if it is possible... dont get me wrong, i certainly dont expect the OP to change out for it and the UD4 is still a really nice board... it was more of a, "if you find extra money for this build look into this" suggestion... the, "we are on OCN" was just a humor reason... as for the RASA kits... i personally feel that if you can find another $50, it is definitely worth the investment (especially since i assume the OP will be over clocking since he got the k version processor)... it also has a strong enough pump to add in the GPU block in the future with some more head room and without voiding your warranty... they do also get better performance because of the bigger radiators... it was just a friendly suggestion to look into... im sorry if i hit a nerve with my suggestions... i would also like to know what you think about the vengeance VS. a 1600MHz G.SKILL kit, as i have never used the vengeance so i have no idea how well it preforms (that is why i decided to put up the idea of using a G.SKILL kit)
