Did i buy the wrong ram?

Thread Starter
Im running a AM3 setup, OC my CPU to 4.1Ghz @1.45v and cpu-nb to 2800mhz @ 1.35v and now for my ram....

http://www.tigerdirect.ca/applicatio...011&CatId=4534

specifications above. When i built this PC i only trusted kingston because last time i built a PC was 2006 and i didn't catch up on todays stuff such as Gskill and other brands that are not only superior and needed for OC but great quality and reliability as well.

I have it running at 1600mhz and all running at the advertised speed because when it plugged in at ran at 1333mhz. Should i OC it further? Is it currently limiting anything on my setup?

The reason for this post is well.. some 4gb chips are way over $100 and i have no idea as to why. I can pick up some Gskill Trident, or Ripjaw X series 6gb for $60...

I got lots of options in the BIOS, let me know what you guys think.

edit - sorry it is running at 1600mhz and Cl9 i OC to the advertised specifications, well actually my mother board listed them for me.

Your Motherboard does not support 1600mhz.
"DDR3 1866(OC)*/1333/1066"
AMD only guarantee's 1333mhz, so that's the default boot setting. Just put it to 1600mhz in your Bios.

That ram is fine, on AMD systems you will have to overclock the ram to reach the ram's speeds. Some boards like the Crosshair IV can auto detect the correct settings but besides that everything thing is fine.

I would of went with this set because the timings are lower but the kingston matches your motherboard.

Hahaha i know i like how it matches atleast should i try to up the voltage and OC to those lower timings?

just kinda sucks could of got better ram and 2 extra gb of it for basically the same price ... but at the same time i haven't even went close to maxing out my ram yet

same story with my gpu, i shoulda bought a ATI, CF is alot better because i dont need identical cards, and i need to SLI patch my mobo to run my card SLI and i shouldn't have bought the 768mb model... And right after i bought my 955 it went on sale for $40 cheaper and i could of bought a 1055T for $10 more but i would of spent the extra $30 more and got a 1090T!

Most AMD motherboards only support 1333MHz memory but 1600 will run, you'll just have to set it manually in the Bios and it'll put a bit more stress on the memory controller.

I would try, cause CL9 is really slow for 1600mhz.

if i can't lower the timing what about lowering it to 1333mhz and then the timings? In my bios should i just enter 8-8-8-24? is that the next step from 9-9-9-27?

Thuban's memory controller supports 1600mhz Deneb doesn't but it can easily be overclocked just like you did. If you can't tell the difference between the timings then you shouldn't worry about the slower timings.
